Sous-1

After 16 years and more than half a million meals, popular restaurant Sous Le Soleil will officially be closing their doors on Sunday 17 December. The Council-owned heritage building Firs Cottage in Clanville Street, Roseville is now being offered for lease as a restaurant or cafe.

Perfectly set up for parents with young kids, Sous Le Soleil has spent the last 16 years offering up a delicious menu of French delights, right next to the ever-popular Roseville Park and tennis courts.

Delicious French menu

From their mouth-watering goats cheese souffle and Parisian gnocci to their delectable selection of desserts including creme caramel and raspberry and tarragon tart, there’s something for everyone to enjoy – even the kids! With a separate menu for the little ones, it’s been a family-friendly staple for the community for years.

You can come on down and try it one more time with their Last Hurrah menu.

History of Sous Le Soleil

In the last quarter of the 19th Century, Richard Archbold Jnr built a two-roomed wooden cottage that became known as “The Firs”, appropriately named after the large number of fir trees planted around the house.

About 16 years ago, Sous Le Soleil first used the original floor plan to set up their famous restaurant. Over the years, many North Shore Locals have enjoyed a romantic table for two on the original balcony, dined with riends or business associates in one of their cosy private rooms, or sat on their pergola, nestled in parkland, to enjoy a wedding.

They offered innovative and affordable French cuisine with an Asian twist. Their inspiration comes from their passion for contemporary French food and seasonal produce. Their Head Chef Young’s creative flair and attention to detail have allowed him to constantly exceed expectations in his delivery of a unique menu which provides irresistible flavour combinations and elegant presentation, all whilst retaining the savoir-faire of the French dishes we’ve come to cherish.

The decision to close Sous Le Soleil

Sous Le Soleil won Outstanding Restaurant at the Local Business Awards 2021

Sous Le Soleil shared on their Facebook page:

“After 16 years and over half a million meals, Olivier and his team have decided to permanently close Sous Le Soleil on Sunday 17 December 2023 as we embark on a new chapter, brimming with life’s next great adventures.

To our patrons, those who have dined with us over the years, whether it has been a cherished tradition or a recent discovery, we extend our heartfelt thanks. Your steadfast support and loyalty have been the bedrock of our success. It’s been an honour and privilege to be part of your lives from family celebrations and romantic evenings to simple gatherings of friends. We have shared both routine moments and extraordinary ones, all within the walls of Sous Le Soleil.

We convey our sincere gratitude to our former and current staff, whose unwavering dedication has been the backbone of our establishment. Hospitality demands resilience, humour, and unyielding commitment, qualities they have all demonstrated over the years. Their tireless efforts, skills, and camaraderie have made our restaurant a true family.

Despite heavy hearts, we are looking forward to sharing with you some more happy times in the next few weeks.

Please note for those with gift cards, we will honour them until our last day of operation.”
