Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Melissa Austin, a beloved Berowra Heights mum who tragically lost her life on New Year's Day while saving her son at Dunbogan Beach.

Melissa, 45, was a devoted mother of two and the heart behind Mel's Hair & Beauty in Berowra Heights. She had just finished the Christmas rush at her salon before heading off for what should have been a relaxing family holiday.

In an act of pure maternal instinct and incredible bravery, Melissa rushed into dangerous surf to rescue her young son, who was in trouble on a bodyboard. While her son survived, Melissa tragically did not make it.

Now, we have the opportunity to support Melissa's family during this unimaginably difficult time. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with immediate expenses and to support her two children as they navigate life without their incredible mum.
