Looking for an indoor rock-climbing centre near the North Shore? If your child is a little monkey, put those climbing skills to use at an indoor centre! Excellent for building confidence and problem-solving skills as well as improving fitness, you will all soon be hitting new heights!


Rock climbing is a great sport that helps children with strength, endurance and flexibility… and it’s a lot of fun! They can start from any age, though most centres recommend at least 4-5 years. If your child love climbing, then it’s time to hit up one of these rock walls:

1. Climb Fit, St Leonards & Macquarie

Kids as young as four are welcome to head over to Climb Fit and give rock climbing a go! You don’t need to book, just head off on a whim and enjoy some climbing fun for the whole family. They also offer Weekly Kids Club, Holiday Kids Camp and private lessons, as well as birthday parties and fitness classes for the adults.

They’ve been at St Leonards for years, and they opened a brand-new centre at Macquarie Park!

2. Northern Beaches Rock House Indoor Climbing Centre

The Northern Beaches Rockhouse has been a successful indoor climbing centre for over 20 years. They have 10+ walls, with almost 100 different routes you can take to the top! Kids need to be 13 and above to hold the ropes, but from the age of three they can have some fun scaling the walls. It’s based on their ability and confidence as to whether or not they can climb.

3. Umbrella Nine Co, Brookvale

Umbrella Nine Co (UNCo)

Umbrella Nine Co (UNCo) is a new rock climbing centre on the Northern Beaches that is perfect for families with kids over the age of 5. Unlike traditional rock climbing centres, you won’t find ropes here, instead they have built lower walls that are surrounded by soft padded mats for safety. You can even test out Sydney’s only Augmented Reality Wall. They also run kids birthday parties for some added fun.

4. The Edge Rock Climbing Centre, Castle Hill

With over 120 climbs and walls, Edge Rock Climbing Centre has climbs for everyone. They recommend no younger than 5 years of age, but are not strict on this. It comes down to your child’s ability. They also offer kid’s birthday parties and school holiday programs for extra fun.

5. Peak Pursuits, Castle Hill

Peak Pursuits is an indoor recreational sports centre in Castle Hill. It includes a ropes course, vertical activities, leap of faith, fun walls, and more. Activities are designed with varying degrees of difficulty and are themed for fun to bring joy and laughter to participants of all ages.

6. Clip’n Climb Central Coast

Just a 30-minute drive from Wahroonga up the M1, Clip’n Climb is located within the Central Coast Leagues Club and features 28 unique themed climbing walls. There’s also a Monkey Mania located within the Leagues Club if you have smaller ones to entertain. Plus, afterwards there’s lots of dining options. Let your kids enjoy the experience of climbing in a fully-supervised and colourful climbing space. It truly is a WOW activity, fun for all ages!

7. Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym, St Peters

This indoor climbing gym is the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest climbing gym. Sydney Rock Climbing also offers programs that run during term time, after school and weekend plus school holiday programs. They have 3700m2 of climbing walls in a range of difficulties from beginners to hard routes for elite and competition climbers. They also have new routes added each week.

    8. 9 Degrees, Alexandria

    9 Degrees

    Bouldering is the safest form of indoor climbing. The maximum height of the walls is ‘only’ 4.5m and the floor is covered with large thick soft mats. There are fun climbs for everyone. All ages are welcome but most enjoyable for ages 16 and over (the older kids!).

    9. BlocHaus Bouldering, Marrickville

    BlocHaus Bouldering

    With more than 850 square metres of climbing walls for you to explore, this fairly new centre in Marrickville is worth the trip. They welcome kids 12 and over, but they are strict about supervision and timing – kids can come one weekdays before 5.30pm. Once again if youre child is younger and is interested in trying it out, just get in touch.
