Selkirk Park in Killara is one of those sneaky, backstreet playgrounds that many people don’t know about. It’s surrounded by towering trees that provide plenty of shade and lots of grass to run around. Our reviewer Felicity Frankish headed along with her son, and here’s what they found.
Elliot and I have a little ritual every Friday morning that involves heading to Marian Street Cafe where he is greeted with the BIGGEST marshmallow you have ever seen, and if we have time, running around at the playground. We usually have the entire space to ourselves!
Getting to Selkirk Park
Getting to Selkirk Park is nice and easy. There’s plenty of parking on Marian Street where you can jump out at the park ready to play. You’ll find Marian Street Cafe just across the road with a Post Office and a boutique clothing store.
Nature Play

So much grass to run around and trees to hide behind!
One of the best features of this playground is all the grassed space! It’s perfect for a game of hide and seek with the kids, with plenty of trees to hide behind. You can also bring a ball and a picnic rug and settle in for an afternoon of play.
The park does have a fence around it, but it’s not one that’s going to stop kids. While the surrounding streets tend to be nice and quiet, you will have to keep an extra eye on the kids here.
Play Equipment at Selkirk Park

Elliot’s favourite place
We started on Elliot’s favourite: the swings. There’s actually no baby swings at this park, just two big kids’ ones, which suited us!

Perfect spot for a game of pirates!
There’s a great climbing structure in the middle of the playground that is perfect for a game of pirates. I climbed up one side while Elliot made his way up the other for a giggle. Also great for kids obsessed with the floor is lava!

The slide is a nice challenge
There’s a slide, which is a decent size for a range of ages.

Great for a group of friends
And a seesaw in the middle that would be perfect for a group of friends.

This big seesaw was a huge novelty!
The favourite was the seesaw at the end. It’s not one that you come across at many parks and Elliot was fascinated by it! He had so much fun (with me on the other side) and is already begging to bring his sisters back.
