Sydney’s iconic Macquarie Ice Rink has been delighting skaters since 1981, serving as both a recreational playground and training facility for everyone from beginners to Olympic competitors. As Sydney’s only Olympic-sized ice rink, it’s been a beloved institution for over 40 years.
After an eight-month, multi-million-dollar transformation, Macquarie Ice Rink reopened in December 2025 with some impressive upgrades. The renovations include a smoother, faster ice surface thanks to next-generation ice-making technology, brand-new boards and plexiglass surrounding the rink, upgraded lighting and sound systems, increased seating capacity, a new jumbotron, and improved accessibility throughout the venue. The upgrades also focused on sustainability and energy efficiency to keep this beloved rink running for decades to come.
Located on Level 1 of Macquarie Shopping Centre with three hours of free parking, it’s the perfect spot for a social skate, learn-to-skate sessions, or even kids’ birthday parties.

Erina Ice Arena brings Olympic-sized ice-skating fun to the Central Coast, conveniently located within Erina Fair Shopping Centre. Built in 2004 and reopened under new ownership in 2021, this state-of-the-art facility features a 60m x 30m ice sheet suitable for figure skating, speed skating, ice hockey, and curling.
The arena offers public skating sessions throughout the week, perfect for escaping the summer heat year-round. Friday and Saturday nights transform into unforgettable disco sessions from 7:30-10:00pm with spectacular lighting – a favourite among teenagers and families.
Programs include Skate School on Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings, Hockey Development sessions on Wednesday nights, and school holiday camps for children aged 3-15 years. Birthday parties can be booked every weekend with various packages available. The venue also serves as home to the Central Coast Rhinos ice hockey team and features a 500-seat grandstand for major events.

Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink, Canterbury

Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink is currently closed and undergoing major renovations, supported by a $17.7 million grant from the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program. Expected to reopen in 2026, the upgrade will transform this Western Sydney institution into one of Australia’s best ice rinks.
The extensive works include replacing the roof structure, installing a concrete ice floor and new barriers, relocating skate hire, and building five multipurpose change rooms. These improvements will support both the local community and elite skaters for decades to come, providing next-generation Olympic hopefuls with world-class facilities to fulfil their dreams.
Once reopened, the rink expects to welcome over 120,000 visitors annually, including more than 600 school children per term participating in skate school and 1,000 students through the school sport program.
