Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink, Canterbury
Currently closed and undergoing building work with a $17.7 million grant.
We were joined in the rink carpark by member for Canterbury Sophie Cotsis, member for Strathfield Jason Yat-Sen Li, and member for East Hills Kylie Wilkinson.
We are pleased to announce that a funding deed has been fully executed under the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program in the amount of $17.7 million. This is a key milestone and this funding commitment enables us to move forward with the activities required to Save Canterbury Olympic Ie Rink. This will allow us to replace the roof structure, install a concrete ice floor and new barriers, relocate skate hire, install 5 multipurpose change rooms and set the facility up to support the local community and elite skaters for decades to come.
The upgrades will ensure this Western Sydney institution is one of the best ice rinks in Australia and provide the next generation of Olympic hopefuls with the facilities to fulfil their dreams. Over 120,000 visitors per year are expected to utilise the facility, including over 600 school children per term who participate in skate school and 1000 students who skate through the school sport program.
