Explore & Develop Roseville is set to open next week! The brand new purpose-built centre with its lush, green outdoor learning environment is the result of local mum, Chantal Donohoe’s vision to create a place where children can imagine, explore, discover and create.
The centre appreciates that for most children, the service will be the first education and care environment they encounter. With this in mind, the aim is to foster a welcoming and home-like ambiance, where children and their families feel a sense of security and belonging. They believe in working with families to ensure an individual flow of the day so as the rights and dignity of each child are embedded in their everyday routine and their practices.
Explore & Develop supports the essential foundations for learning for all children and in doing so provides a play-based developmentally appropriate curriculum where children are learning important knowledge, skills and attitudes that will not only prepare them for school but for lifelong learning.
The multiple outdoor learning environments have been designed to cater for individual age groups incorporating gross motor skills and an appreciation for the environment. Explore & Develop supports the mounting evidence that connecting children to the natural world through early education programs and environments enhances learning, and is essential for healthy development.
Children will be actively involved in learning about sustainability by watering the veggie garden using the onsite water tank, making compost out of food scraps from the kitchen and using a variety of recycled materials in the play based learning curriculum.
The environment and program is vibrant, flexible and responsive to the interests and abilities of each child. It includes foundation literacy and numeracy, construction, creative arts, music and pretend play experiences all designed for active and busy minds and bodies.
Chantal is a local North Shore mother to two young children and an Early Childhood Educator. She believes in giving children security, support and respect.
Being on-site, Chantal is able to manage and support the educators, families and children, and create an environment that is an extension of the children’s homes, providing a fluid transition from their family home to the centre.
