Get ready to explore the newly upgraded Brickpit Park Playground in Thornleigh, just in time for the school holidays! Hornsby Shire Council has transformed this popular park into an exciting, family-friendly destination, with loads of new features to keep kids entertained.
Junior Water Play

Junior Waterplay
The new junior waterplay area is an absolute treat for younger kids (and anyone looking to cool off)! Featuring in-ground water sprays, it’s a refreshing addition to the playground and a perfect way to beat the heat.
Junior Ninja Warrior Course

Ninja Warrior Course
Get ready for action! Hornsby Shire’s first-ever junior ninja warrior course is the ultimate challenge for older kids who love testing their skills. Equipped with a solar-powered mounted stopwatch, it adds a fun competitive element for budding ninjas to race against the clock.
Inclusive Playground
The revamped playground is designed to be fun and accessible for all. Features include:
- Nature play elements to spark imagination.
- Inclusive play equipment suitable for kids of all abilities.
- Original favourites like the swings, climbing equipment, and flying fox.
- Accessible paths and toilets to ensure everyone can enjoy the space.
The upgraded Brickpit Park Playground now includes larger picnic shelters, shade sails, additional trees for natural beauty and shade, full fencing for safety, and accessible paths and toilets to enhance comfort and usability for everyone.
The playground’s design honours the park’s history as a former brickworks. A brick wall featuring heritage bricks donated by local collector Warwick Gemmell adds character, alongside inlaid details referencing the National Brickworks Co.
“We’re incredibly proud to deliver this fantastic new playground for the community,” said Hornsby Shire Council Mayor Warren Waddell. “This upgrade not only offers new and exciting facilities for families, but it also preserves the historical significance of the park while making it accessible and enjoyable for everyone.”
Looking ahead, the pedestrian circuit path and an off-leash dog park are expected to be completed by mid-2025, further enhancing the park’s appeal as a vibrant community hub.
This project was jointly funded by the NSW Government’s Place to Play Grant and Hornsby Shire Council.
