Grasmere Children's Playground

If you’re looking for a playground that caters to young children, has plenty of space for big kids to run, is completely fenced in and is perfect for picnics, then Grasmere Children’s Playground is perfect. Right in the heart of Cremorne and close to local restaurants and shops, it’s a great place to take the kids for a relaxing afternoon. Here’s everything you need to know.

I took my youngest son Elliot (4) to meet some friends for a picnic and check out Grasmere Children’s Playground in Cremorne. Here’s what we found.

Getting to Grasmere Children’s Playground

Located on the Lower North Shore, Grasmere Children’s Playground is nice and easy to get to. Coming from Wahroonga it took me about 30 minutes in the car, with plenty of street parking options on arrival right outside. This was nice and convenient when it came to lugging out food and picnic blankets!

Children’s playground

I just love the kids’ playground here. It’s definitely more geared towards the younger crowd, which meant I could sit back on the picnic rug with friends and leave Elliot to explore on his own. There wasn’t anything he needed my help with (or that I had to worrying about him climbing). This made for a very peaceful day.

The slides are great fun

The slides are great fun

This is the highest climbing structure in the playground and it’s lots of fun. There’s two slides to choose from, with the little shop below that’s great for some pretend play: mud pies, anyone? It has plenty of railings to make sure no little ones can slip off.

Spinner and swings

Right next to the slides there’s a a big cup for spinning. Kids can sit in it and use the wheel to spin themselves around. This was a highlight with the little kids, with lots of turn taking happening as the bigger kids preferred to go a bit faster!

Mini spinner and bridge

This has to be Elliot’s favourite toy at a park. He loves sitting on these mini spinners and sending himself in circles (I don’t know how he doesn’t get sick!).

The bridge was lots of fun as well, great for balancing and for games of tip (which the boys thoroughly enjoyed).

Bouncing horses

Finally, how cute are these bouncing horses. Haven’t seen ones like this at a playground before!

Grassed area

One of the biggest highlights of this park is the huge, fenced-in grassed area.

So much grass space for kids to play and parents to picnic

We brought along some balls for the boys, who had so much fun chasing around, kicking, throwing and causing plenty of mayhem – all away from the main playground and the other kids. It was the perfect set up for them.

It’s also a great space to set up a picnic with friends. We met up with a group of about 8 of us, laid out a few picnic rugs and kept the babies close, while the big kids simply ran off and played independently. The whole playground is fenced in, which keeps the stress levels nice and low.

The one big downside is the lack of toilets! You have to jump in the car and drive to the McDonald’s just a few minutes down the road.

Around the area

One of the great features of this park is its prime location. Just a one-minute drive down the road you will find the family-friendly Oaks Hotel, SoCal Sydney, Burnt Dining and a number of other cafes and restaurants. You can stop of a meal and take the kids for a run around afterwards, or pick up some takeaway for the park.

There’s also a Cole and Woolworths nearby, where you can pick up a picnic (and any other essentials) before heading to the park for a play.
