Feijoada, Brazilian Black Beans with Beef Fillet & Chorizo (made by Helen)

The thing I love about FoodSt dishes is the versatility. I get to serve up meals that I wouldn’t ordinarily know how to make, but I can make them my way. Take Feijoada, Brazil’s national dish. I could get the double serve and it would be perfect for my husband and me, or I could add some lentils and chicken to the mix and plate it with some corn chips and a side of guacamole for a complete family friendly meal. I got to introduce the kids to some great new international flavours without spending hours planning, sourcing the ingredients and cooking. Perfect! Order.

Chicken and Shiitake Mushroom Dumplings (made by Iris)

I’m obsessed with dumplings so it’s tough when the rest of the family aren’t that into them. Although I ordered a selection of tasty options for me (I’m hoping to keep the delicate flavours of the Chicken and Lemongrass ones all to myself), the Chicken and Shiitake Mushroom Dumplings are perfect for fussy eaters. Just the right amount of flavour to keep me happy, but not too overwhelming for little tastebuds. The dipping sauce was wonderfully flavourful without relying on chilli, so everyone could enjoy it. Best of all, they are cooked straight from the freezer and ready to eat in under 10 minutes. Order.

Saffron and Lemon Couscous Tagine (made by Helen)

I would love to find more vegetarian options for family meals, but it can be difficult to find something that doesn’t remind you that meat is missing. With this in mind, I was really impressed at how this Tagine was a main event. The golden crunchy crust cracked just a little to give a peek at the gem coloured contents and fill the room with an intoxicating smell. There was no way that this could be mistaken for a side dish! I appreciated how vegetables that would normally be considered boring in my house (swedes and turnips) were perfectly spiced so were devoured without question. It is a little spicy, so it was eaten sparingly by my five year old, but it is a definite win for the rest of us. Order.

Some of the Indian dishes available from Food St

I decided to try a few of the Indian dishes from Food St. My husband and I love a good curry, so I was keen to try a few new dishes that I wouldn’t necessarily cook at home.

Butter Chicken (made by Apoorva)

Butter Chicken is one of my favourite Indian curries, and this one didn’t disappoint! The chicken was tender and the flavours packed a punch. It was a lot spicier than butter chickens usually are, so the kids found it a little hot at first. Though we added a bit of plain greek yoghurt to their bowls to make it a bit milder. Absolutely delicious! We’d definitely order this one again. Order.

Mughlai Lamb Curry (made by Umesh)

Absolutely loved this lamb curry! The lamb had obviously been slow cooked, so it simply melted in your mouth. Delicious! The base is coconut cream, and it’s packed full of flavour with a mix of whole and ground aromatic spices. Order.

Chickpea, Lentil and Sweet Potato Curry (V) (Made by Melinda)

I don’t usually cook vegetarian curries, so I was keen to try a vegan Indian curry that claimed that “any meat lover will enjoy”! Well, we did! It’s hearty (filled with chickpeas, red and green lentils, sweet potato, seasonal vegetables) and is packed full of flavour. Quite spicy too! We paired it with basmati rice, some homemade poppadoms and mango chutney. Order.

Gozleme – Spinach and Cheese (Made by Pia)

Our entire family is a huge fan of Gozleme, it’s our favourite thing to eat when we’re out and about and food trucks are involved. I have attempted it at home before, but it’s a lot of effort and with three kids 5 and under, time is not in my favour. It was top of our list for ordering, and we weren’t disappointed. It comes frozen, we defrosted overnight and heated up some oil in the fry pan to crisp it up. It was delicious once cooked, and enjoyed by everyone. We used it as an entree, sharing two gozlemes between the five of us, but could have bought more and turned it into a meal. The kids would have loved more. Order.

Mini Barramundi Fishcakes (Made by Helen)

My kids love anything crumbed, from fish fingers through to nuggets and calamari, they will scoff it down between the three of them. These fish cakes looked too good to pass up as an easy, healthy alternative to a week night dinner for the kids. They were nice and easy to cook in the oven, with fresh barramundi minced with potato mash inside. The kids weren’t too keen on the sauce that came with it (the homemade tartare was delicious, but my kids prefer their good old mayonnaise and tomato sauce). They were an easy weeknight meal served with tomatoes and greens on the side. Order.

Cashew Nut Chicken (Made by Prarawin)

This is one of my favourite dishes, so I definitely chose this one for me. And I’m so glad I did. I got it out for a weekend night when I really didn’t feel like cooking, and it was such an easy option. I simply popped it in the microwave and it was ready in minutes. It also got the tick of approval from my husband. It’s the perfect replacement for takeaway, and very little effort on your behalf. The leftovers were great as well. Order.
