From the owners of the award-winning Sierra Escape Mudgee, Escape Bathhouse opened this weekend, bringing a luxurious new wellness retreat to Sydney’s North Shore.

Created by husband-and-wife duo Cam and Tasch D’Arcy, this serene urban sanctuary was born from a deep desire to help others feel their best — to slow down, reconnect, and restore balance in the everyday.

A Modern Sanctuary in a Historic Setting

Escape Bathhouse is located within the heritage-listed Seymour Building in Chatswood, renowned for its beautifully preserved Spanish Mission architecture. Spanning 320 square metres across two levels, the space has been thoughtfully transformed into a tranquil, light-filled bathhouse that blends timeless character with contemporary wellness design.

The Experience: Heat, Cold, and Calm

At Escape Bathhouse, embark on a two-hour hydrothermal journey, a ritual of heat and cold that rejuvenates both body and mind. The experience combines a 37°C mineral pool with 10–12°C ice baths for restorative contrast therapy that boosts circulation, strengthens immunity, and supports muscle recovery.

An infrared sauna and steam room deepen the detoxification process, lower stress hormones, and create space for mindful stillness. Between circuits, guests can pause at the Placebo Bar — a no-alcohol refreshment bar serving mineral-rich sips and herbal tonics — to rehydrate, reconnect, and extend the calm.

Together, these mineral-rich rituals offer a deeply soothing escape for relaxation, reflection, and renewal.

The large communal mineral pool is maintained at the perfect therapeutic temperature and is suitable for pregnant guests. The mineral-enriched waters provide a soothing sanctuary for relaxation, connection and restoration.

Two dedicated ice baths offer the invigorating contrast to our heated spaces. The alternating hot and cold exposure creates a powerful immune response through multiple mechanisms: increased white blood cell production, activation of heat shock proteins, reduced inflammation, and improved circulation.

Signature Treatments for Complete Restoration

In addition to the core bathhouse experience, Escape also offers a selection of restorative treatments designed to nurture both body and soul. The signature treatment, Nunyara — meaning “to be made well again” in Indigenous language — is a two-hour wellness ritual that includes breathwork by Rory Warnock, a full-body exfoliation, therapeutic hot-stone massage, and rose-quartz facial rollers. This intimate experience honours the art of slowing down and reconnecting with oneself.

Wellness Placebo Bar

The Placebo Bar is a calm, social spot for non-alcoholic cocktails (“placebos”) that deliver all the ritual without the booze. Think bright botanicals, house infusions and crisp finishes, alongside specialty coffee, loose-leaf teas, and a small menu of delicious, healthy snacks to refuel between sauna, steam and soak. Simple, uplifting, and made to keep you clear-headed.
