Playground Review: West Epping Park

Epping park

Sitting right next to the Epping YMCA (where you can grab a coffee), West Epping Park is a child’s wonderland with plenty of fun no matter what direction you look. You’ll find equipment, two sporting fields, skate ramps, basketball court and plenty more. Here’s everything you need to know.

I took my three kids, Cassie (7), Vivi (5) and Elliot (3) to check out West Epping Park on our way home from a family weekend on the Central Coast. Here’s what we found.

Getting to West Epping Park

While not on the North Shore, this park is just a 20-minute drive from Wahroonga, and is well worth the drive for something amazing! It’s a huge adventure playground, surrounded by a bike path and so much more.

There’s a free street car park just next to it, or plenty of street parking if you walk up past the Epping YMCA.

Older children’s playspace

The older children’s space at this park is just incredible! The climbing tower was the highlight for the girls, and even my 3-year-old made his way up there one time for a slide down.

Two of the other slides off to the side

The best part: if that’s slide is too big for your kids, there’s another three slides off to the side, all different varieties for them to test out.

Elliot (3 years old) definitely had the most fun trialing these slides, and using the climbing wall to the side to make his way up them.

Two girls giggling away on the spinner

The girls found themselves lost on the spinner in the middle. They climbed on and raced around in fits of laughter. We even saw one daring child running along it!

360-degree slide in the middle

There’s also a HUGE 360-degree swing in the middle. It’s in a bit of a pit, so it was hard for the kids to get on without a little help. If this swing isn’t right for them, there’s also another set of swings just behind some of the seating area, with some more traditional options.

Pre-school children’s playground

Great shaded toddler area

There’s an almost completely separate preschooler playground that sits on top of a little hill. Elliot ventured over to test out the smaller slide and would have loved a turn in the swing (too big!).

There’s also a different spinner up here that the girls took on as well – they love spinning!

Extra facilities

The amazing playground isn’t all that’s on offer at West Epping Park. You will also find:

  • Basketball court
  • Skate park: Elliot loved this spot. There were not boarders at the time, so some of the younger kids were having fun running up it, grabbing on and sliding down.
  • Tennis courts
  • Table tennis tables (BYO balls and paddles)

There’s also a circuit path that loops around and would be perfect for scooters and bikes (unfortunately, we forgot ours!).

Plenty of seating options around the park

There’s also lots of undercover seating options, so you can stay out of the sun while keeping an eye on the kids.

There are also public toilets (yay!) that are open from 6am to 8pm
