Blue Gum Community School Hornsby is an exciting new independent co-ed school for children in Preschool and Primary School (Kindergarten to Year 2). After School Care and School Holiday Programs are available.
Blue Gum represents a new and hopeful choice for families in and around Hornsby open to re-imagining a more creative approach to education while still achieving NSW curriculum mandated outcomes. Blue Gum is designed as a place where young children can’t wait to explore every day – from the beauty and intrigue of the school’s location on a Heritage-listed and protected estate to its proven ethos based on 20+ years serving children and their families in Canberra. At Blue Gum students are equipped to be confident learners, communicators and collaborators. Highly qualified Blue Gum educators place rich learning encounters, creativity, exploration, collaboration, relationships and joy at the centre of every day.
Small by design, with a maximum of 80 children per year, no child is ever overlooked at Blue Gum. It welcomes diversity and celebrates multiple perspectives. High teacher-to-child ratios ensure rich relationships can be established with every child and their family. In Preschool, two educators work with groups of up to 16 children (which is high compared to the NSW state-mandated 2:20 ratio); and four teachers work alongside up to 48 children in K-2 providing a 1:12 ratio of educators to Primary students at Blue Gum.

We started at Blue Gum as one of the first students when it opened back in 2022. We were looking for a preschool which followed a child lead approach in their learning and a learning environment which encouraged exploration through everyday activities and items. The grounds are a beautiful historical home at the highest peak in Hornsby. They have kept the heritage of the home, and incorporated Montessori based play within the centre. From a music room, construction room, painting room etc. They offer preschool hours and the additional extended hours before and after, in addition vacation care is available for the kids (however if you don’t book you don’t need to pay like childcare). They assisted us in the transition to Kindy, which is extremely beneficial to his current enjoyment at school.
