Love a Sunday roast? On a cold winter’s day, escaping to a comfy warm pub to enjoy a Sunday roast (that you haven’t actually had to cook) has huge appeal! We share the best family-friendly places north of the bridge to try this weekend.


It’s time to rug up and head out for a hearty roast that will round off the week perfectly. We have scoured the North Shore and beyond for some great Sunday roasts that you can’t look past. Use the quicklinks below and get booking!

    Pub Roasts Lower North Shore

    1. Commodore Hotel, MacMahons Point

    • They’re currently undergoing renovations and will be closed temporarily.

    Situated just over the Harbour Bridge, on the fringe of the North Sydney CBD, the Commodore Hotel is a popular spot to catch up with friends. Come along on Sunday to enjoy a roast. They also have some incredible share dishes, including a lamb shoulder that serves 3-4 people with roasted vegetables, damper rolls, chimichurri and gravy (one-day preorder). Plus, you can enjoy a suckling pig that serves 10-12 people with roasted vegetables, damper rolls, rocket & parmesan salad and mustard gravy (three-day preorder).

    2. The Oaks, Neutral Bay

    You can take your pick of roasts at The Oaks! Their menu has an entire section dedicated to Grilled/Roasted items, including roasted barramundi, slow cooked lamb shank, braised beef cheeks and more. Even better, you’ll find these delicious meals in Alala’s Bar, which also has a strong focus on beautiful seasonal cocktails for you to enjoy – a real winner. They also serve a variety of kids’ meals for $16 each.

    3. Woolwich Pier Hotel, Woolwich

    The Woolwich Pier Hotel is an award-winning pub with a British inspired seasonal menu and famous Sunday roasts for $30 (until sold out). It’s almost too hard to choose between the Pork Belly & Crackling ($33) or the Riverine Saddle of Lamb ($35), served with roast vegetables, pumpkin mash, yorkies & natural gravy.

    Families can grab a table in the stylish downstairs dining hall or the pavilion outside where the kids can run around on the lawn. The kid’s menu has some great options like battered fish or poached chicken and includes ice cream and an activity pack, all for $14.

    On Sundays they also have live music from 1-4pm.

        4. The Buena, Mosman

        With its moreish food offerings, great service and relaxed yet sophisticated vibe you’ll quickly discover why The Buena is a both a favourite. Steeped in history, The Buena is an iconic landmark in the lower north shore. A beautiful refurbishment has updated this classic pub, adding to its charm.

        Head over on a Sunday and enjoy a Sunday Road with all the trimmings! You can check their socials pages to see what’s coming up. They also have a separate kids’ menu with $16 meals, including spaghetti bolognese, grilled fish or chicken, margherita pizza and more.

          5. The Bridgeview Hotel, Willoughby

          The Bistro at The Bridgeview Hotel is a great family-friendly venue. Their menu includes a selection of pub classics and on Sundays they offer a traditional family roast with all the trimmings.

          All Kids Meals are $12 and included a juice or soft drink & ice cream. Choose from Spaghetti with Red Sauce, Cheeseburger & Chips, Schnitzel & Chips, Fish & Chips or Bangers & Mash.

          It is also less than 500m to Hallstrom Park if your kids need to burn off some steam at a playground after their ice cream.

            6. The Willoughby Hotel, North Willoughby

            The Willoughby Hotel is situated just over a kilometre from the Chatswood shopping area. It has a relaxed bistro with a gastropub menu, their Sunday roast accommodates the whole family – $30 for adult & $15 for kids! A proper Sunday feed. Enjoy rotating roast meats, crispy potatoes, seasonal veg, rich gravy, and our giant Yorkshire pudding that’s fast becoming a local legend.

            Another North Shore institution, the Greengate Hotel has recently been refurbished and has an updated menu designed for sharing. Their take on a roast is the shared slow cooked lamb shoulder with chat potatoes, market greens and red wine jus for $95 (between 2 people).

            If you’re looking for a family-friendly place to dine, it doesn’t get much better than Magpies Waitara. There’s an indoor play area where the kids can blow off some steam while you can actually sit and chat.

            You can enjoy a Roast of the Day, any day of the week served with rosemary chat potatoes, pumpkin, seasonal vegetables & gravy. There’s also plenty for the kids with a variety of $14 meals, including a burger, nuggets, grilled chicken and more.

            9. Forestville RSL Club

            The Forestville RSL Club Bistro menu features a Roast of the Day every day of the week (not just Sundays!). Catch up with friends for a drink at the bar, then head outside to the alfresco seating at Pickets. 

            The serve costs $22 for members and $24 for visitors.

            10. The Duke of Clarence, Sydney

            Hidden in the heart of the CBD, The Duke of Clarence has an award-winning food menu features high-quality share plates, with a nod to classic British cuisine. And what could be more British than a hearty roast to end off your day. Better yet, you can enjoy one of their delicious roasts any day of the week. It comes with house-made gravy, Dutch carrots, broccolini, peas, potatoes and Yorkshire pudding – a real classic meal!
