The playground at Wildflower Gardens is ready for a big upgrade!

Seeking a new spot to get the kids outdoors and burn off some energy? The Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden in St Ives is set to undergo a significant upgrade, featuring a playground designed to inspire adventure and imagination. Families can expect a nature-filled escape to spend a fun-filled day together, enjoying the outdoors. Here’s everything you need to know about the new nature playground at Wildflower Garden.

Kids are set for even more outdoor fun, with a brand-new nature play space coming soon to the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden in St Ives.

Backed by a $402,523 grant from the NSW Government’s Metropolitan Greenspace Program, the current playground will be completely reimagined into a bigger, more engaging, and eco-friendly hub for local families.

Ku-ring-gai Mayor Christine Kay said the grant will help the council transform an outdated playground into a larger, better green space for current and future generations to enjoy.

“We have designed a unique, nature-focused play space that is perfectly suited to the bushland sanctuary of the Wildflower Garden.” – Mayor Christine Kay

The design is centred around nature-inspired play, encouraging children to climb, balance and explore while being surrounded by bushland. For parents, it means a safe and accessible space where kids of all ages and abilities can connect with the outdoors, get active, and let their imaginations run wild.

New Wildflower Playground

The new play space has been designed to fit seamlessly into the bushland sanctuary of the Wildflower Garden.

“The play space will be accessible to all ages and abilities and will be constructed from natural and recycled materials.” – Mayor Christine Kay

Central to the playground will be a custom play structure crafted from sandstone quarry blocks. Children will be able to challenge themselves with climbing and balancing while letting their imaginations run wild in a setting that celebrates the local environment.

The nature-themed playground will highlight local flora and fauna, especially the unique Coastal Upland Swamp Community. It’s all about encouraging children to engage with the natural world while having fun—a chance to experience the joy of play outdoors rather than on a screen.
