DESCRIPTION

St Andrew’s Cathedral School is a coeducational, independent Anglican school, located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Reflecting our Christian foundations, we are a strong and hopeful learning community that nurtures the individual strengths of each student in our care.

With a long history—we were originally founded as a Choral School in 1885—we are known for our outstanding performing arts program with 25 music ensembles, including our renowned Cathedral choristers. With extensive sporting and co-curricular opportunities—from fencing, theatresports, debating, dance and drama—we also have an outstanding outdoor education program based at our property, Kirrikee, in the NSW Southern Highlands.

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, our middle school students are taught the NSW school curriculum through the IB Middle Years framework and Senior College students can choose to study either the HSC or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

We are the quintessential city school, located in two high-rise buildings in the centre of Sydney’s CBD, enriching our curriculum with city experiences, all on our doorstep. Our buildings are purposefully designed, light filled learning spaces for Junior School, Middle School and a dedicated pre-tertiary environment for Senior College.

Our school within a school, Gawura, is a highly regarded model, noted for its innovative approach to a First Nations-led education within a mainstream system and was named 2020 Australian School of the Year. As the School of the Year judges observed, Gawura is a ‘lighthouse program in Indigenous education with wonderful, almost unheard-of outcomes.’

Our teachers are experts in their chosen fields who very much enjoy the relational nature of teaching and who engage in the character development of each child, both within and outside the classroom. They are also passionate about developing their practice and benefit from a progressive professional learning program.

A city-based high rise building isn’t the first thing you think of when sending kids to school – but St Andrew’s Cathedral School is full of joy, laughter and play on the rooftop playground, exceptional music, and a community that is the definition of supportive and inclusive. My children have both attended since Kindergarten, and next year my eldest will continue his high school journey at SACS in 2024. Academically it shines and stands out as a non-selective school. There are extensive opportunities and support available for Gifted and Talented students (this school stands out because it truly understands these children!). And in the high school students equally choose the International Baccalaureate and the traditional HSC. It’s a beacon of exceptional, caring, values-driven coeducation.

My daughter went to SACS in 2014 in yr 10 and was so happy to fit in and be accepted ( her words ) I believe her amazing results in her HSE was 100% down to SACS , the students thrive in an inclusive caring environment. Her fondest memories of education were at St Andrew’s Cathedral school and being head of St Paul’s house .She came away with the belief that if you applied urself you could and would achieve your dreams .My son went to SACS in yr 5 and is currently in yr 12 , definitely the right choice for him , he feels he belongs and loves the SACS community. He mentioned how cool it was to feel like an adult in yr 12 and the fond relationships between student and teachers .As a parent of 2 students at SACS , can’t recommend enough , such a great Co- Ed school with a great mix of kids from all parts of NSW .

Our daughter attended her first jazz band rehearsal yesterday. She came home positively beaming: ‘It was the best Mummy. This is what I have been waiting for the whole time I have been playing saxophone’. You made a young saxophonist’s dreams come true.

Since joining SACS last year in 2020 with my eldest daughter, who was starting in Year 7 and then this year with my youngest daughter in Year 4, my experience at the school has been incredible. The sense of community, the engagement and cohesive nature in which the entire school operates only validates my decision to join SACS. As a current serving member of the P&F, I am also privileged to see the behind the scenes work that is done and I am proud to say that the extra-curricular work done to make SACS one of the leading schools in the country is second to none.
