The beloved Australian pup Bluey is trading her backyard adventures for a splashy debut on the big screen. BBC Studios, Ludo Studio and Walt Disney Studios have announced that the feature-length Bluey movie has been officially confirmed for a global theatrical release on 6 August 2027. Created, written, and directed by Joe Brumm, with the original voice cast and creative team returning, it’s sure to be a hit with young and old.
“I’ve always thought ‘Bluey’ deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together,” Brumm said in part in a statement.
A new movie adventure
Joe Brumm, the creator of Bluey, will write, direct, and executive produce the film, with co-director Richard Jeffrey (Seasons 1–3) and producer Amber Naismith (of Happy Feet and The LEGO Movie fame) joining in.
The much-loved voice actors: Melanie Zanetti (Chilli) and David McCormack (Bandit), are also back, along with composer Joff Bush crafting the heartfelt score.
What we know about Bluey the movie…
The worldwide theatrical debut is on 6 August 2027 (with Australia possibly seeing it a day earlier, on 5 August).
This theatrical run will be followed by streaming on Disney+ globally and ABC iview/ABC Kids in Australia.
Still under wraps…
The plot and story direction remain a mystery. Fan theories range from a road-trip adventure around Australia to a time-jump showing older versions of Bluey and Bingo, but nothing has been officially confirmed so far.
