Whether you’re new to the animal scene or a long-time pet owner and lover, one of the most important things you can do for your animal is to ensure you have a trustworthy vet for all their health needs. That’s why it’s time to join the family of animal lovers at Turramurra Veterinary Hospital.

About Turramurra Veterinary Hospital

Turramurra Veterinary Hospital was established by Dr James Thompson in 2006 and his wife, Dr Gretta Howard, later joined the practice. To this day, they remain a proudly independent and family-owned practice. They are proud to be the only veterinary practice on Sydney’s North Shore to be accredited as an Australian Small Animal Veterinarians Practice of Excellence. Their 30-minute veterinary consultations mean you will never feel rushed and have enough time to chat about your pet’s needs.

Turramurra Veterinary Hospital has been located in the Princes Street shopping precinct of Turramurra since it opened in 2006 (with plenty of parking around the area) and supports a wide variety of charities, local schools and kindergartens at their fetes and fund-raising events, including sponsoring Kindifarm visits, allowing children to interact safely with a variety of young farm animals. They are also a major sponsor of the North Turramurra Football Club (NTFC) supporting local community sport.

Services provided by Turramurra Veterinary Hospital

Your family pet will receive outstanding veterinary care at Turramurra Vet Hospital with a full range of health services for preventative health and the diagnosis and treatment of problems affecting your dog, cat, rabbit, guinea pig, ferret, bird or other family pet.

New Puppy

There is a lot to remember when you welcome a new puppy into your home. Thankfully, Turramurra Veterinary Hospital’s puppy pack is available free with your first consultation and contains all the information you need.

As part of your first visit, a phone consult with their Pet Behaviour Consultant is complimentary, which can help with a behaviour issue of your choice such as settling in, toilet training or puppy biting.

The Puppy Preschool (8-16 weeks) and Canine Kindy (4 months to 11 months of age) are also run on-site by their dedicated Pet Behaviour Consultant, Katie Bedrossian.

New Kitten

From vaccinations to a complete health check, you can read through their kitten pack provided at your first consultation, which will help keep your new furry bundle safe and protected.

Preventative Care

Your family pet will be offered the best in nutritional advice and health care by Turramurra Veterinary Hospital’s experienced vet team. Annual health check-ups help ensure that potential health issues, including dental disease, are detected and treated early, and that vaccinations and parasite control (such as ticks, fleas, intestinal worms and heartworm) are tailored to your individual circumstances.

Vaccinations

Your family dog, cat, rabbit or ferret should be vaccinated against potentially fatal, but thankfully preventable, diseases. Prior to vaccination, your pet’s health is assessed, a full physical examination is performed, any questions are answered and advice is given on flea, tick, heartworm and worm control.

Tick Paralysis

Australian paralysis ticks are far more toxic than ticks in the UK, South Africa or the United States. If you are new to the North Shore, Turramurra Veterinary Hospital will happily discuss tick toxicity and advise you on the most appropriate tick prevention for your pets.

Desexing

Discover what to expect from this routine procedure in the video below.

Pet Behaviour

Pet behaviour problems can be very distressing for both your pet as well as the owners. Turramurra Veterinary Hospital takes these issues very seriously as they can also affect the bond between a pet and their human owners and ultimately affect their quality of life.

Through detailed consultation, they are able to help determine the cause of the problem and a suitable solution to help manage it. In some cases, a referral will be required to see a veterinary behaviour specialist externally, but in most cases, they are able to assess the pet’s condition and provide a diagnosis and treatment recommendations.

Dog Training

Does your dog have a bad habit? Problem behaviours, such as leash pulling, doorbell excitement or jumping up on people can be addressed with their Pet Behaviour Consultant, which is available for in-clinic or in-home training. Enquire about Turramurra Veterinary Hospital’s Day Training Behaviour Package and let Katie do the training for you.

Dentistry

All pets deserve a healthy pain-free mouth, not to mention the hygiene issues! Veterinary dental care is extremely important for the health and well-being of your pet and a regular check-up will allow dental disease to be treated promptly.

Diagnostics

It is a worrying time when your family pet is ill, and no-one wants to wait days for test results. You will be reassured that Turramurra Veterinary Hospital has complete laboratory testing equipment on the premises that allow near-instantaneous test results for haematology (blood screens including red blood cell count for anaemia, white cell and platelet counts) and biochemistry (organ testing). In addition to this, a faecal analyser allows parasite screening for pets with diarrhoea with same-day results. Their radiology suite includes digital radiography and ultrasound, with visiting specialists called in as required.
