With the colder months on the way, it’s time to start thinking about your winter holiday! If you’re keen to take your kids to the snow, The Snowy Mountains are about a five hour drive from the North Shore. You can either stay at the popular Jindabyne (a 20 minute trip to the ski fields) or at one of the ‘ski in ski out’ Chalets directly on the slope. Raine & Horne Snowy Mountains, Jindabyne

There are fantastic stand-alone chalets in Thredbo which offer easy access to the lifts and have a unique village atmosphere. There are also units in Jindabyne, a 20-minute drive to the mountain. They also offer the full package with lift tickets, ski hire, transfers and daily ski lessons.

Activities  

There is a plethora of activities in the snowy mountains. Take a day off skiing or boarding to explore the wilderness on horseback, or explore the culinary delights of the Alpine Larder or Wild Brumby Distillery along the Alpine Way. If the weather comes in and you just want to have an indoor day, head to the Thredbo Leisure Centre and have some fun in the indoor pools, waterslide, mission inflatable or even the rock climbing wall.

About the area

Thredbo has something for everyone. Whether you are a beginner learning on the gentle slope of Friday Flat, stepping it up a gear at the Cruiser intermediate area or having a crack at some of the most advanced terrain in the country, Thredbo has trails for all standards.


Visit Snowy Mountains, Thredbo Village

Head on over to the designated snow play area for hours of fun for all ages! Take a toboggan, build a snowman or have a snowball fight. Take advantage of the programs Thredbo has to offer. Such as skiing and snowboarding lessons, whether it be a group or private lesson, or ski school and Thredboland there is a program suited for everyone.

You can discover Kosciuszko National Park and Thredbo Resort. The Resort is split into two main areas, Friday Flat and Thredbo Village. The Village end of the Resort includes bars, restaurants and shops as well as access to the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift.

About the area

Thredbo is an alpine village and ski resort in the Snowy Mountains of southeastern Australia. The Kosciuszko Express chairlift provides access to ski runs and offers panoramic mountain views year-round. The Mount Kosciuszko summit walk leads to the top of Australia’s highest peak. Wildflowers dot the mountains of Kosciuszko National Park in spring and summer. The trout-filled Thredbo River winds through the village.


Snowbound Chalets, Thredbo Village

Snowbound Chalets are idyllically located on the Thredbo golf course. The chalets vary in size, from 1 bedroom to 3 bedroom properties. Each chalet comprises of spacious living and dining areas, gourmet kitchens and beautifully appointed bedrooms. Most Chalets boast views of the golf course or the stunning valley and feature the finest inclusions; security parking, spa baths, drying rooms, laundry and balconies with BBQ’s.

Being only a short walk from your Snowbound Chalet to the famous Thredbo super-trail, you are able to clip in and ski straight down to the lifts. It is hard to overlook Snowbound accommodation with all the necessities plus more on offer; Snowbound Chalets are truly a home away from home.

Activities  

There are a range of activities to enjoy whilst visiting Thredbo. Right on your doorstep is the golf course, covered in snow during winter it is your own little piece of a winter wonderland! Take a toboggan, build a snowman or have a snowball fight- hours of fun for all ages.

Skiing and snowboarding is available for all levels of riders. Take advantage of Thredbo Ski School, they offer a range of lessons suitable to all ages and skills, from group to private lessons and Thredboland there is something for each family member to enjoy.

Thredbo Leisure Centre: enjoy the heated pool on a blizzard day or jump around on the indoor trampolines if you feel the need to get in from the cold!

During the summer hike to the top of Australia, enjoy a walk and take in the scenery, wildflowers dot the mountains in Spring and Summer and are a wonderful site. Mountain biking for all levels of riders and there is an obstacle courses for the little ones, gentle easy trails, the pump track and extreme downhill riding. Other activities include tennis, the skate park, basketball, spring free trampolines, table tennis and kids play park.

About the area

Thredbo offers first time skiers and boarders a dedicated beginners area at Friday Flat. It is serviced by the ski school and a low speed quad chair, and a conveyor lift. For Intermediate skiers and snowboarders there is the Crackenback Supertrail, a 5.7km run from the highest lifted point in Australia to the base lodge has wide well groomed runs. Merritts area also offers some great runs. Advanced skiers and snowboarders will love Funnelweb, Cannonball and Michael’s Mistake.


Ski In Ski Out Chalets, Thredbo Village

Why not catch the mini bus for a free ride around Thredbo Village, stopping at Friday Flat for a warm donut and hot chocolate, you can even visit the new designated toboggan area which now also includes spring free trampolines.

Thredbo Leisure Centre also offers a whole range of fun filled activities for the children including the waterslide, mission inflatable & climbing wall.

Thredboland is for 3-6 years old and is specially designed to not only teach the kids how to ski but it stimulates the child’s imagination, encourages learning and creates intrigue.

Watch one of Thredbo’s finest traditions, the flare run and fireworks from your very own balcony on Saturday nights or let your kids be part of the action on Thursday nights in their very own flare run and fireworks.

Activities  

The little one will love Thredboland where they spend the day learning to ski or enjoying intermittent ‘indoor time’ to warm up while playing/drawing and eating good food and hot chocolate! The 7 to 14 years will love ‘Freeriders’ where instructors will group them by age and ability and then teach to ski and snowboard while they explore the mountain. About the area

Being located in the heart of Thredbo Village, Candlelight is just a few minutes walk from Kosciuszko Express chairlift. Alternatively the free shuttle bus stops right at the door and will ferry you to all lifts and to the children’s ski school area at Friday Flat. The toboggan park is also close by.

Edelweiss Hutte is located in a quiet residential street in Jindabyne and is only a 30-40 minute drive to Thredbo or Perisher Ski Resorts. Jindabyne is part of the Snowy Mountains region which is 2 hours south of Canberra and a 5 1/2 hour drive from Sydney. Jindabyne town surrounds the beautiful Lake Jindabyne and has an array of restaurants, dining and shopping. The Kosciuszko National Park is a 10 minute drive which makes Jindabyne a perfect base for exploring the regions many natural attractions

Specialising in serving families and individual travellers so you never have to compete with large bus groups, their belief is  ‘high care/low volume’ instead of the other way around. Location

Jindy Snow Ski Hire is located at the Snowy Valley Centre (MOBIL) in East Jindabyne about 5 minutes before the main township of Jindabyne. There is plenty of parking right out front, so you won’t have to battle it out in the busy car parks in town. Once you leave the store it is another 40km (approx. 40 minutes) until you reach either Thredbo or Perisher Ski Resort.

The national park boundary is located 10km past Jindabyne and it is compulsory for all 2WD vehicles to carry snow chains (from June long weekend to October long weekend). You only put them on when told to by RMS officials.
