About Orchard Early Learning Centre
Opening on 13 July 2020, the Orchard St Ives centre will provide children aged 6 weeks to 6 years a home away from home, where their individual personalities and learning styles will be cherished and celebrated.
At Orchard, a huge part of their vision and philosophy is to ensure early childhood education sets children up for a lifetime of successful learning, so they can make a positive contribution to their world. They believe that if children are active participants in this process now, they are the future that will lead us to a successful and sustainable world.
Sustainability is a big focus and the “Reduce Reuse Recycle” approach reaches new heights in energy efficiency and minimising emissions. Orchard Early Learning Centre design includes an enormous solar capacity allowing them to work off the grid, natural ventilation to reduce mechanical ventilation, automatic sensor lighting, automatic off taps, on site edible gardens used for children’s meals. This philosophy continues into the kitchen, with chefs using fresh seasonal produce from our garden and using any food waste for our chickens, worm farms and composts.
The highlights are the large outdoor space, beautiful orchard and children’s working gardens. They will be working with a specialist landscape designer with a strong permaculture philosophy, to create an ever evolving native landscape with edible native plants, native stingless bees, pear and apples trees, edible sensory gardens, recycled water stations, mud kitchens and other elements from nature.
These spaces invite open-ended interactions, spontaneity, risk-taking, exploration, discovery, and connection with nature.
Indoors will be just as stunning, with large spacious free flowing classrooms with natural light and beautiful views of our gardens and growing orchard.
Open from 6:30am to 6:30pm, the centre is centrally located just off Mona Vale Road, opposite Brigidine College. Ample parking, accessed via Woodbury Road, will make drop-off and pick-up easy for families. Find out more about Orchard Early Learning Centre on their website.
Want to be in our video review? Fill in the form below by 9am Friday 3 July.
Note: If you’re able to film a short video talking about what you look for in a childcare centre, it will help us to see if you can talk naturally on camera. Something basic on your iphone is perfect! But don’t worry if you can’t do a video, we’d still love to see your application.
