While we don’t experience a snowy winter in Sydney, there’s no reason why you and the kids can’t enjoy some fun this winter! There are many places in the city and suburbs that offer an ice-skating experience throughout the year, and even more rinks that ‘pop up’ just for a rollicking great time in winter.
Yep, right here on the North Shore! Winterland will host an air ice rink, spectacular amusement rides, a genuine ice slide, alpine food village. Walk through the extravagant ice forest filled with displays and amazing light shows – the kids will be enthralled.
Snow will be falling over Luna Park during the school holidays! Strap on your skates and slide onto the ice at the outdoor ice rink. There’s no need to pre-book a session time and skating is FREE with your Unlimited Rides or Annual Pass.
Feel the cold air on your face and the ice below your toes on Australia’s largest open-air ice-skating rink. Plus enjoy snow tubes, Powder Peak the inflatable slide and the Ice Castle inflatable. And when you’re finished mastering your figure eights, you can enjoy all the traditional European culinary delights nearby as well as captivating entertainment for the whole family. Skating at Cathedral Square is a wonderful event that allows all ages to experience the magical delights of winter traditions.
Australia’s only beachside ice rink! Skate in the sunshine, or under the stars at night – it’s an exhilarating experience. Skating sessions start on the hour and go for 45 minutes. There are even 45-minute skating lessons during the week. Also get a birds eye view of the iconic Bondi Beach from Bondi Vista, a 22 metre high ferris wheel.
Come and enjoy the massive outdoor ice rink. There’s also a a free kids creative hub everyday, carnival rides and an illuminated ferris wheel! On weekends there will also be a Circus Playground. After skating, enjoy food and drinks served from the fabulous Outdoor Winter Village, including The Original Soupman, authentic wood-fired pizza by YouPizza, tasty German sausages from Berlin Bangers or a plate of fiery Indian curry from Chilli & Grains!
Have fun at an icy wonderland over 3 weeks. Bring the whole family and enjoy a number of icy experiences! Glide on the giant ice skating rink, swoosh down the mega ice toboggan and experience a 9D snow adventure plus the snow play zone area will be back. Exciting rides will also be there including the Venetian carousel, 25m ferris wheel, the super speedy swing chair and the giant slide.
Heading to the Central Coast these school holidays? Winter in the Park is returning to Gosford CBD. Skate, eat and play! Ice skating and free snow play will be on every day plus other events such as the Whacky Winter Wonderland Show, the STAR Chalet and Smurfette’s Journey and the Mad Hatters Tea Party.
Come and celebrate and journey to the Bathurst Winter Festival. Historic buildings will come alive through static and interactive illuminations, every night from sundown. Wander through the Enchanted Forest then rug up in the Winter Playground with the McDonald’s Bathurst Ice Rink and giant ferris wheel. Tickets start from $5 and the Winter Playground is open every day of the festival from 9am – 9pm.
Ignite the Night will kick off the festival on Saturday 7 July with regional food and drinks, mulled wine, ice skating performers and local entertainment from midday – 9pm.
Brew & Bite will take centre stage on Saturday 14 July with a pop up bar, street food, fire performances, silent disco and more mulled wine from midday – 9pm.
Macquarie Ice Rink is open every day (apart from Christmas day) so you can enjoy ice-skating year round. The centre offers three hours free car parking, so there is plenty of time to enjoy a social skate, learn to skate, or even hold a kid’s birthday party.
Ice Zoo has the traditional skating sessions and learn to skate classes, but also ice hockey, ice fitness classes, live DJ nights and snow play for children aged under 6 years during term time!
Sydney Ice Arena is located just five minutes from the M2 and M7 Motorways and is a really fun place to go ice-skating. It’s Olympic-sized, so there is plenty of room to strut your moves and decorated party rooms to celebrate the big day. Here, you can learn to skate, figure skate or play ice hockey. There’s even curling (probably more for the oldies!).
Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink is a not-for-profit entity that returns the income back into the operation of the ice rink. It’s well-known as the friendliest, best-value rink in town. Take a skating class, hold birthday parties, and join a house club and rink activities throughout the year. There’s also ice hockey and speed skating fun to be had.
Liverpool Catholic Club Ice Rink is located in the Liverpool Catholic Club Sports Complex, so head on down for a fun day of skating. From attending Learn to Skate classes with accredited coaches, or going along to a Whiteout Saturday, you are guaranteed a great time. Also consider an Ice Rink Party for your child.
Penrith Ice Palace Skating Centre is an Olympic-sized arena that is perfect for general skating, plus Friday night disco’s sessions and programs to learn ice-skating under the guidance of professional coaches in skate school and ice hockey development. There is also a canteen next to the ice surface where you can sit, relax and enjoy some light refreshments, hot and cold drinks and snacks.
