NSM Review: St. Malo Bakery, Crows Nest

The popularity of St. Malo Bakery in Crows Nest is evident by the queue at the bakery counter which often spills out onto the pavement. I’m sure this is because of the amazing array of freshly baked goodies, which makes the decision making process very difficult!

Having first opened it’s doors three years ago, the business was purchased by new owners, husband and wife team Camelia and Miles in October 2013.

St. Malo is a cafe and bakery specializing in organic sourdough. Wholesale of their baked goods is also a large part of the business supplying cafés and restaurants across Sydney.

The cafe can seat up to 50 people with an outdoor seating area just off the pavement for those who like to watch the world go by, and a generous indoor seating area which includes a small covered courtyard.

Orders are placed at the main counter and the food will be served to your table. Standing at this mouthwatering bakery counter is where your dilemmas will begin! Everything from the array of sweet and savory delights looks amazing, and all have been freshly baked on the premises.  In my experience, it’s just not possible to order only one thing! Many customers come for takeaway only or stay for breakfast and take something away for later!

Of course they also have a full breakfast and lunch menu.

We started with coffee which is Gabriel Coffee, and it hit the spot perfectly. My son had his usual weekend treat of a chocolate milkshake which was very well received…. and shared!

For breakfast, I ordered the St. Malo Breakfast and my husband the Organic Poached Eggs Hollandaise with Ham. Everything was delicious, I can best describe it as really simple ingredients cooked and presented exceptionally well! The tomatoes were by far the most delicious I’ve ever tasted. The addition of the jam and ricotta were are real twist and it was like having a meal and dessert all in one and a delicious way to use up the toast which was too good to leave a morsel!

We also ordered a serve of banana bread under the pretence it was for my son but honestly I ate most of it myself as it was so light and moist.

The cafe aims to offer top quality food at reasonable prices along with a great customer experience and I would agree that they succeed here.

As parents to a toddler themselves, Camelia and Miles place great importance on a child friendly environment and as such entertain a number of mothers groups throughout the week.

Although they don’t have a Kids Menu they are very happy to cater to any requests. High chairs are provided and as mentioned, a good selection of toys.

The menu will change seasonally and you will see a new winter menu coming soon. Top quality ingredients are used throughout with some fully organic and vegetarian options.

St. Malo Bakery is located at 83 Willoughby Road in Crows Nest, and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 7am to 3:30pm. Click here to ‘like’ them on Facebook too.
