Martys

We’re just back from a fantastic little family getaway at Nelson Bay. It’s something we’ve done quite a few times over the years, it’s an old favourite that’s just such a winner with little ones. The difference this time is we decided to try a new place to stay. Usually we opt for somewhere across from the beach, but we felt we’d exhausted all opportunities with our many visits. This time we decided to take the lead from Trip Advisor and book our stay at Marty’s at Little Beach. I don’t think there’s one bad review of the place, which is always a good sign, and now I know why.

Whilst it isn’t beach frontage, it is next to a paved path that is an easy five-minute stroll down to Shoal Bay beach. The pretty end of the beach too, up towards the Nelson Bay light house. It’s so picturesque! There is also another path the other way that takes you to Little Beach, again less than a five-minute stroll. That’s the first time we’ve actually stumbled across Little Beach. It’s a bit more like a bay and has a nice little kid friendly vibe with plenty of shade and a playground that will keep the troops entertained while you take in the scenery.

Having said that, we actually didn’t spend too much time at the beach this holiday because we couldn’t tear our little lady out of the pool at Marty’s! It really is the highlight. It’s outdoors and it’s heated. Bingo! Not to the point that you’re having a bath, but enough that it takes the edge off which was great, given the weather wasn’t the cooperating when we were there. Didn’t stop us though… nothing like a swim in the rain for a bit of fun.

The best way to take advantage of the pool is to ask for a ground floor apartment. They open out onto the pool area and you can see the kids from your own patio and even from inside your apartment. The pool is gated for safety of course. There is also a BBQ area and a little mini playground for the little ones, both undercover.

The grounds are beautifully maintained with lovely flower gardens which our little one enjoyed exploring with a new found friend in the next door apartment.

Importantly, the self-contained apartments are refreshingly clean, neat and modern with a well-stocked kitchen and free wifi which makes for hanging out at home during our youngest one had his day sleeps a pleasure.

I really do recommend staying at Marty’s. I know we’ll be back, and next time for longer!
