Martina Blair, mobile hairdresser from M.ARTY hairdesign, visited Pymble mum Stephanie Dolman for a cut and colour. Here, Stephanie reviews the experience:
I must admit, I was a bit nervous about getting my hair cut and coloured at home. How would this work? Where would I get my hair washed? As I would discover, I had no need to be worried.
Martina turned up to my house right on time (I love punctuality!). She asked me where it was easiest to set up and asked to see the bathroom or laundry to set up the basin to wash my hair. She then put down a cloth to catch all the hair (no cleaning up for me!), we got a dining chair and then proceeded to chat about what I wanted done. We had already had a conversation on the phone about what I wanted, and I had emailed her a self-portrait so she could get an understanding of what my hair was like.
Martina had such a strong grasp on what I needed in regards to a hairstyle. I wanted something I could pull back really easily (little hands love hair), but would look great when I had it down – easy to maintain, easy to do. She really listened to me and had great ideas about how it would work. If you’re anything like me, my hair always looks great when I leave the salon… but as soon as I wash it, forget it, it looks terrible. Luckily, this didn’t happen with Martina, as she patiently showed me how to do my hair so that I could maintain the great style.
First, she coloured my hair and we chatted. I have included a few snippets of the chat below:
- What made you become a mobile hairdresser? When I had my son I really wanted a job that would work around my family. I felt that mobile hairdressing would do that and that I would give it a go. It has worked out really well.
- Are all your clients on the North Shore? Except for weddings, yes my clients are all North Shore based.
Once the colour was ready, we went into the bathroom and she washed my hair in the basin that she had brought with her. Then back into lounge room for the cut and style. Before and after it was styled she talked to me about how I would maintain the cut – how to do my hair when it was up and then how to style it when it was down. I must say I was really impressed.
This was all taking place while all my children were at home. Anytime I needed to do anything for the kids, Martina was totally fine (being a Mum herself).
Then she cut my three-year-old son’s hair. It was his first hair cut and I felt quite nervous about how he would react. But Martina was great and he sat still as she trimmed his baby hair away.
While Martina was here I also had a look through some books that she bought of her work, and boy was I impressed.
I will definitely be calling Martina for my next cut and colour. Trying to find the time to get to a salon when you have two young kids is next to impossible! Having Martina coming to my home was so convenient, and I was delighted with the results!
