NSM Review: Fresh Cafe, Crows Nest

Opened in early March 2014, Fresh Crows Nest is situated in Ernest Place. This square is buzzing with family activity at all hours of the day, there is a grassed area for the little ones to run around and a water feature which is always the biggest attraction for any kid, whether the parents like it or not!

There are a number of cafés in this area and dare I say all seem to be popular. What makes Fresh stand out from the rest is their philosophy ‘to eat well to be well’. Owner Phil Carey is passionate about healthly eating, current health food trends and the medical reports behind them, all of which influence his menu. Using organic produce, the majority of items have been prepared on the premises or are locally sourced, and the menu will change to incorporate fresh seasonal ingredients. All special diets can be catered for and are highlighted on the menu, e.g. Gluten free, Wheat Free, Dairy Free and Vegetarian.

Chocolate Milkshake Goodness!

The menu offers a range of healthy options as well as the usual hearty breakfasts and a kids menu too. Having just placed our order I saw the food being delivered to the table next to us which looked amazing and instantly had food envy, wondering if I’d made the right choice! For me presentation is one of the most important factors in a meal and this did not disappoint.

We ordered the Fresh Big Breakfast, Avocado (with goats cheese and heirloom tomatoes on sourdough) and the kids Bacon and Egg. There were three very happy customers!

Avocado with Wattle Valley goats cheese, roasted heirloom tomatoes on toasted sourdough, drizzle of walnut oil and balsamic. $15.50.

For those not wanting the full breakfast, you could always grab a takeaway coffee & banana bread, and join the many other Mums sitting on the grass in the square.

There is a relatively large outdoor seating area and limited indoor seating with future plans for expansion. High chairs are available for the little ones and we were given crayons and paper as soon as we sat down.

As well as hopefully adding extra indoor seating, there are plans to open Thursday to Sunday early evenings serving tapas and organic beer and wines.

If the quality of your day hinges on the quality of your coffee then you will definitely come back for more! We loved the rich flavor and couldn’t resist a second before we left with a buzz!
