North Shore Mums mother's Day

What do mums really want for Mother’s Day? Is it the presents? Time alone? A sleep in? We’ve taken the guesswork out for partners or children this year and gone straight to the source. Here’s what our very own North Shore Mums shared about what mums really want for Mother’s Day in 2020…

What do mums really want for Mother’s Day? A well-made cuppa and a sleep in, just to start with

FREE MOTHER’S DAY PRINTABLES!

  1. A sleep in, coffee in bed and a cuddly baby.” – Georgia, Killara
  2. As a first-time mum with a four month old and all my family in the UK, the best gift for my first Motherโ€™s Day would be to see my mum in person, introduce her to my daughter and give her a big hug to say thank you for being my mum.” – Gemma, Lane Cove
  3. “Breakfast in bed with my grandkids would be so special, followed by the whole family having a picnic lunch, games afternoon, nails painted, nap and reading time, followed by a movie night. Meals and snacks supplied by my kids and a massage voucher for when restrictions are over.” – Wendy, Elanora Heights
  4. “Even after all this time in isolation, I still just want to spend time with my family, and be able to see my mum for the first time in ages.” – Davina, St Ives Chase
  5. For Mother’s Day this year, I want Covid to end but our family time to continue. Covid exploded during a work trip overseas and I managed to get home, luckily. A slow day with simple pleasures is ideal, as we hit pause and breathe deeply, appreciating all our silver linings.” – Felicity, Waverton
  6. “Lots of cuddles with my one-year-old son of course, but maybe a trip to the bathroom alone? Or if Iโ€™m being super greedy, a nap on the couch while hubby takes our boy out for an hour! Too much? OK maybe just some Haighs chocolate then!” – Charlotte, Cammeray
  7. I don’t want a lot for Motherโ€™s Day, there is just one thing I need, don’t care about the presents sitting at my feet, I just want it for my own, more than you could ever know, make my wish come true… all I want for Mother’s Day is sleeeeeep.” – Stacey, Crows Nest
  8. I want a day to spend with my family, I want quality time with them.” – Elly, Pennant Hills
  9. I want to be able to leave the house and have breakfast at our favourite cafe with my daughter. Simple pleasures.” – Selina, Cammeray
  10. I would love a Motherโ€™s Day card, flowers, breakfast in bed, a few hours by myself and for my husband to fetch the prepaid dinner I ordered! So nothing impossible, I think.” – Martina, Roseville
  11. I would love a sleep in, a tidy house and some fluffy socks and slippers. Not very original, but easily pleased and tired Mumma right here!” – Victoria, Roseville
  12. I would love to have a day that I can spend quality time with my two boys (10 months and 3.5 years old) without being distracted with chores. Also would be great to enjoy some yummy takeaway food.” – Elizabeth, Westleigh
  13. I would love to have some guilt-free me time from time to time to unwind from the daily, hectic commitments. Finishing cancer treatment, returning to work and managing Covid has its intense moments, but also grateful for quality family time. Some me time could help rejuvenate and re-energise.” – Michelle, St Ives
  14. Iโ€™d like that hubby remembers it is Motherโ€™s Day, as it will be my first. He never remembers any special occasion.” – Karmen, Lane Cove
  15. Iโ€™d like to actually give my mum a hug . All this social distancing and the fact that my mum is elderly means that I can see her, but would feel I canโ€™t hug her (just in case) – itโ€™s all very sad. The times I have seen her Iโ€™ve tried to keep my distance from her.” – Therese, Artarmon
  16. “Iโ€™d love a massive tackle cuddle from my three boys aged five, four and one, followed by receiving their creative gifts they cherish and made from pure love. Then Daddy can make gooey eggs for all of us to share because weโ€™re all little soldiers.” – Sandra, St Ives
  17. Just a hug and a smile from my kids. And maybe that my kids do something different for me that they don’t usually do. It might be a cup of tea or making something, just thinking of someone else. I would love to see my mum who is in lock down in NZ but online will have to do this year!” – Vicky, Hornsby
  18. My son will be baking my favourite delicious banana cake and my daughter will buy my favourite Brown Brothers Moscato wine to celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday. This year is really special as my daughter has just moved back home as she has been living away from us for the last four years. She used to live in Mascot and it took her more than one hour each way to travel to my home in Ryde via public transport. So I hardly see her until now.” – Tricia, Ryde
  19. The best gift would be to hear that no mother lost a child (no matter what the age) to Covid! We have to win this battle.” – Tanya Marsfield.
  20. This Motherโ€™s Day I would love to be pampered with a yummy meal, hot cup of tea and my boys all showering me with love and hugs and kisses and maybe a gift or two.” – Michelle, Pymble
  21. This year my Motherโ€™s Day desire is more of a wish, not reality! I wish my siblings could spend the day with our mum but we canโ€™t, so weโ€™ll Zoom it. But what I want more than anything is a LOT of hugs and not virtual ones!!!” – Carmel, Mount Kuring-Gai
  22. With everything going on, I just want my kids.” – Mira, Willoughby East
