Brittany Trevenar from Mount Colah tells us about her ‘superhero’ mother Angelique in her entry to the North Shore Mums Mother’s Day Competition to find the North Shore’s most inspiring mum of 2016!

My mum is so special. Life wasn’t made to be easy but someone’s really testing her.

Angelique’s children: 10 year-old son Jordan and one-year-old Chaise, plus her daughter Brittany with her husband Mark

In the last few years, she has shown great strength, taking care of a premature baby who was on life support. She has had to watch her baby boy go through multiple surgeries before he was even a year old. Over the last year she has had to spend 6 months in the NICU and ICU at Randwick Children’s Hospital every day as well as making sure my 10yr old brother was taken care of and got to school on time. She has had to make decisions no mother should be asked to make, yet she never took the easy road out.

After 6 months in ICU, she fought with all the doctors to bring her little boy home, to show him the outside, and what life was really like. Everyone was very nervous about allowing it – but after much convincing and a lot of organising of machines and making sure all the supplies were available at the home, they finally said yes.

It was never going to be easy, not knowing what would happen, or if it was the right thing to remove him from the place that had been keeping him alive. However, within a week of being home he was off his machine during the day, and he started to thrive like crazy.

Since being home he has made it to his first birthday, spent Christmas with the family, and celebrated Easter – all which wouldn’t have been accomplished without our beautiful mum.

She has had to sacrifice almost everything, and spends very little time out of the house due to his machines and medical supplies. Her day-to-day routine is jam-packed with taking care of her baby’s needs yet she still makes time for her other children.

Although its not ideal, she wouldn’t change her situation for the world! She’s a true superhero and I’m sure I can safely say, on behalf of my brothers, my fiancé, and myself, that there are no words to describe how much we love her and how thankful we are to have her.

Do you know an inspiring North Shore Mum? Enter them into our Mother’s Day competition and they could win a $1000 farmstay at Mowbray Park Farmstay, and you could win a 2-hour pamper at Omorfia Day Spa in Lindfield! There are fabulous runner up prizes too. More details.
