Sydney sparkled on a balmy Autumn evening for the fourth annual North Shore Mums Vivid Family Cruise, which was held on the first night of Vivid 2019, Friday 24 May. The three-level Captain Cook vessel cruised around the spectacular Sydney Harbour whilst local families soaked in the sights of Vivid Festival away from the busy city crowds.
For one hour, 400 awestruck North Shore Mums, dads, children and grandparents cruised around Sydney Harbour on board our luxurious and spacious vessel from Captain Cook, viewing the spectacular, mesmerising lights of Vivid Festival from the best spot in the city!
As if being on a huge ship and incredible views of Vivid weren’t enough, there’s was even more fun on board with roaming entertainment from StarDust Kids Parties & Events and a disco and karaoke from party specialists Bop Til You Drop.

What our guests had to say:
‘A quick shoutout to say THANK YOU so much to @northshoremums for putting together the organisational miracle in getting so many families with very little kids, out on the water and enjoying Vivid Sydney away from the crowds. For me, as a single mum of 3 under 5, I truly appreciate (I mean, I have no idea but I can imagine!) what must have gone on behind the scenes to make this event happen. My tribe had a great night and were all thoroughly tuckered out post. For so many of us in this “boat” (ha), getting out to an event like this and letting kids enjoy the spirit of Sydney is a bit difficult to imagine – but you did it. You got us all out and on time too! I was reading that $5 from each ticket sold went to @streetworkaus. When I sit back and think of the vision behind @northshoremums, (I’ve given out lots of bags donated by @north_shore_mums_smiles2u at RNSH ED), I’m both impressed and heart warmed at the same time. Well done to the North Shore Mum team and thank you for having us!’ – Rachel, @themumllennial
‘I didn’t quite know what to expect, but we were so impressed. Loved the entertainment for the children and the boat itself was perfect. It wasn’t too crowded which was great. The length of cruise was spot on and the boat itself was fabulous. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be onboard again next year. Thanks for organising such a great event!’ – Prue, Mosman
‘My son loved seeing the lights from the boat and really enjoyed the disco on board and the whole cruise experience. It was a nice way to experience our first vivid as we only recently moved to Sydney.’ – Faye
‘What a wonderful evening! It provided the perfect opportunity to see Vivid with the kids. My kids loved the Disco. I couldn’t get them off the dance floor. There was plenty of room on the boat to move around and we never felt crowded. It was so easy to enjoy the lights & it was comforting to know their was entertainment onboard if the kids got overwhelmed & needed to be distracted.’ – Jessica
‘What a wonderful evening! It provided the perfect opportunity to see Vivid with the kids. My kids loved the Disco. I couldn’t get them off the dance floor.’ – Jacquie, Mosman
‘We loved the kids entertainers especially since they started before we boarded. Gold!’ – Veronica, Crows Nest.
Cruise for a cause!
With $5 from each ticket being donated directly to StreetWork, we were thrilled to raise over $2000 for this wonderful community organisation.
Rachel Chappell, Founder of North Shore Mums, has recently been appointed the Patron of StreetWork. She says, ‘It’s so rewarding to be able to organise an event like the NSM Family Vivid Cruise to bring our online community together whilst supporting such a worthy local cause. I’m delighted to be able to be able to help raise awareness of the incredible work that StreetWork does in the community.’
StreetWork offers one-on-one mentoring with ‘at risk’ young people affected by crime, mental health issues, violence, destructive relationships, social isolation, homelessness, those disengaged from school or with poor employment opportunities and those impacted by alcohol and substance abuse, to turn their lives around.
