All mums know that the combination of on-site toddler entertainment and amazing coffee for tired mums is a winner! Which is why The Newport’s weekly Mothers Group program gets the thumbs up from NSM Discoverer Rochelle Kim, who shares her experience at the morning session featuring stories, craft (and babycinos of course)!
Free toddler entertainment AND caffeine, all in one place? Sign me up, please! With two small children under five, I’m always looking for new ways to keep them entertained (and me caffeinated). This is why I can’t recommend The Newport’s weekly Mother’s Group enough.
Enjoy a coffee or breakfast at the Kiosk while you catch up with friends (and maybe meet some new ones). Learn to the Beat will have the kids entertained with their educational music and activity class from 9.45am to 10.45am.
Held weekly on a Tuesday morning (9:45 am-10:45 am), The Newport Mothers Group delivers a fun program of songs, dance, stories, craft and games. Delivered by Tanya from Learn to the Beat, the morning class encourages language development and motor skills in a fun and social environment. The activities are short in duration to suit the attention span of the age group, keeping the group enthralled. It even finished with parachute games, always a favourite with children!
Afterwards, kids have the opportunity to discover all the other games and toys onsite, which are a huge drawcard and make The Newport one of the most family-friendly establishments in the Northern Beaches. There’s lots of room so it’s easy for them to move about and make the most of the equipment. The children loves the bowling green and the large Scrabble table, and took turns on the bouncy car hopper. My only problem with my morning at The Newport was it was too hard to leave. The kids were having too much fun!!
The Food:
Only one word describes the coffee and food at The Newport: DELICIOUS! Here’s what we ordered:
- Cappuccino and latte
- Babyccinos
- Lemon meringue tart
- Dark chocolate and mixed berry muffin
My little babyccino connoisseurs were impressed. It was a two-coffee kind of day, so I can tell you both the latte and cappuccino were smooth, with a strong caffeine kick. We were also lucky enough to try the delicious pastries and muffins available at the cafe. The dark chocolate and mixed berry muffin was light and fluffy, but had rich flavours to satisfy that sweet spot. The lemon meringue tart was tangy and sweet, with a beautiful buttery crust.
While we chose from the sweets and pastry menu, there was also a small breakfast selection which had savoury options – you can view it all online here. Also, if you’re not a coffee junkie like myself, you can select from a delicious menu of smoothies, juices, teas and more to cater for most tastes.
Final Verdict:
Definitely go! It’s free, it’s fun for the kids and the coffee is worth it. If you’ve got a mothers group, it’s the perfect place to meet. There’s plenty of space for prams, lots of long tables and entertainment for the children. If you want to stay longer, a lunch menu is also available from midday, giving you a great opportunity to soak up the sun and those amazing harbour views.
