Ever wondered about the people behind the scenes at North Shore Mums? Well, wonder no more! We’re bringing you a series that profiles each of the moderators, some of whom you may know, others who you have yet to get to know! So welcome to Meet the Team, where you can find out a little about some of the amazing people who help to keep the online community working smoothly. Meet Leesa Hopwood, mum-of-two from West Pymble.

Tell us a little about yourself… I am a Psychologist and mum to two kids, a boy and girl aged 5 and 8. I am enjoying a change of pace as both are in school this year!

How long have you been an NSM moderator: About a year

What do you enjoy most about being a NSM Moderator? Having an excuse to justify my NSM addiction

What’s the hardest thing about being a NSM Moderator? Judgement calls when things go pear shaped (and putting the phone down)

What do you love about the North Shore Mums community? Shared knowledge and support. Our world at the moment is filled with politicians using scare tactics and for me the NSM spirit and community embodies how things should be, or at least something to aim for in the wider world.

What’s the best piece of parenting advice you’ve ever been given? That it is OK for kids to be bored. That is when they start to get creative. And – check on them when things are too quiet…

What’s your favourite shopping centre? Top Ryde – I can always get a car spot there pretty easily and the movies are not that busy there.

What’s the weirdest thing your kids like to eat? Other than snot?! They love eating bowls of frozen peas and will eat bowls of olives. They eat antipasti without complaint but if I try to serve fried rice, you would think it was poison.

What was the last band or show you saw live? Tim Minchin at the Opera House steps.

Where do you buy your kid’s clothes? Target, online (especially the matching dress to dolls dress outfits), Cotton On and sadly Pumpkin Patch and Gymboree were other favourites.

What’s your go-to store for emergency kid’s birthday party presents? I have a present cupboard and buy on special or when I see something cool. I don’t tend to use any particular store.

What’s your favourite place to go on the weekend with your family? Somewhere different. I tend to keep an eye out for unusual events or places. Swimming in Lake Parramatta, puzzle theme walks, medieval festival etc

What’s your favourite spot to have a picnic? Newington Armoury or Bicentennial Park Homebush

Do you have a favourite family-friendly cafe? Little Gem at Gordon. I started going when my daughter had just been born and always felt welcome.

What’s your guilty ‘trash TV’ show? Bondi Rescue!

What children’s CD or show do you want to NEVER hear/see again? Dirt Girl. She is just creepy.

What was your runner-up for your kid’s names? Elliot and Naomi

If you were given a whole free day (child free) to do whatever you like, what would you do?
Get a massage, have a coffee and read a book. I have been known to sneak off to the movies alone as well.

Best holiday destination you’ve been to with kids?
Legoland Malaysia. The hotel is awesome. And you can also do lots in Singapore as well.

What do you love most about living on the North Shore?
The trees and greenery. And friendliness of the people.
