‘No Place Like Home’, an annual community art exhibition hosted by community housing provider, Link Housing has launched an online gallery accessible to people of all ages and from all over the country, interested in viewing artworks between September 1 – 30, 2020.
The exhibition reflects the theme of there’s ‘No Place Like Home’ to highlight the importance of affordable, safe and secure housing.
Link Housing created the concept and launched the ‘No Place Like Home’ community art exhibition in 2016 as part of its community engagement strategy. The exhibition provides tenants with the opportunity to reflect on the importance of their home to their lives and show this through art. In opening the exhibition to everyone regardless of their artistic experience,– Link Housing has sought to create an inclusive event that raises the public’s awareness and challenges stereotypes about ‘social housing’, homelessness, and the need for more safe, affordable and secure housing to help the most vulnerable in our community.
With the majority of the 94 plus artworks in this year’s exhibition coming from City of Ryde artists and residents, the exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for local artists to showcase their talents and community members to show their support by attending the virtual launch event and exhibition.
The virtual launch ceremony was held via Zoom and included special guest speakers including City of Ryde Councillor Penny Pederson and renowned Aboriginal artist Bibi Barba. Visitors to the online gallery microsite can re-watch the launch event and take a virtual walk through the exhibition, hear about the artists and their artworks and learn more about the issue of homelessness and why we all need a safe, secure and affordable place to call home.
Artworks include paintings, video art, poetry, sculptures and photographs. As in previous years, many artworks will be available for sale.
You can visit the exhibition online which runs from September 1 – 30, 2020: noplacelikehome.linkhousing.org.au.
