Come along to the Charismatic Kangra : The Aristocratic Miniature Paintings Of India Exhibition @ Maya Emporium (An exclusive Darjeeling Tea & Indian Art gallery in Australia).
When: Mon 17 May – Saturday 31 July
Where: 5/680 Pacific Highway, Killara
This pictorial art of Kangra is named after Kangra from the North Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Once practised only in the royal courts, this exquisite miniature art form strongly depicts the rich biodiversity of the Himalayan state. The paintings also depict feminine charm in a very graceful manner articulately portraying their refined & tender emotions.
These miniatures are beautifully painted with mineral pigments and pure gold on handmade paper. This miniature art form was at the verge of extinction. It was only in 2014 that it received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag acknowledging its origin. We are making a humble effort towards its conservation by working with the artists and encouraging them to continue working on this remarkable heritage. The exquisite artworks are also available for sale and can be a precious possession or an elegant and priceless gift for someone you care.
