Dr Kathryn Austin

Dr Kathryn Austin is an energetic, passionate and empathetic Obstetrician and Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist. She is rarely seen without a smile on her face.

Kathryn holds a public appointment at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) where she is a senior clinician within the specialist obstetric clinic for medical complications of pregnancy. She was involved with establishing the preconception planning service at the Royal Hospital for Women (RHW).

Prior to studying medicine, Kathryn was a Pharmacist. These skills were vital to her work at Mothersafe NSW, where she helped to provide a comprehensive counselling service about the safety of medications during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding.

Kathryn obtained her medical degree at the University of Newcastle, and undertook specialist training at the RHW and then subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine at RNSH and RHW.

Kathryn is a well-loved, and well connected doctor. She is a big-picture thinker and has a passion for making positive change to improve maternal and child health. She sits on the Board of the Gidget Foundation providing support to those experiencing perinatal depression and anxiety, and is a non-executive director of the AMA (NSW). Dr Austin has been awarded the prestigious AMA NSW President’s Award for service to the medical profession.

Always an enthusiastic, open doctor who endeavours to empower women during their pregnancy journey, Kathryn’s desire to become a doctor and care for others has been a life-long pursuit.

Kathryn is a proud Abbotsleigh old girl. She enjoys swimming, cooking and running. She loves good food and entertaining. Her husband and two children are her greatest joy in life.

Who you choose to look after you during pregnancy is an incredibly important decision.

At North Obstetrics, we are mothers ourselves and have had first-hand experience at the highs and lows of pregnancy, as well as over a decade of experience managing other women’s pregnancies. We really understand the importance of having an obstetrician who you can trust and connect with during this time.

We are a female-only practice. We intentionally care for only a limited number of women at a time, allowing us to really get to know the women we look after and ensure that we are always there to help when needed. We know the importance of practising safe, evidence-based, quality obstetric care.

Kathryn was my obstetrician as a first time mum with a twin pregnancy. She was amazing! So calm and reassuring throughout the whole pregnancy. I saw her colleague Margie a few times throughout the pregnancy and postpartum period, and she was also lovely.
