Your creative flair could win you $10K in The Hornsby Art Prize, which is open now for artists over 18 years. So grab your paint brushes and canvases, lino, paper or clay and express yourself through art!

Art is a wonderful way to express yourself, an incredibly therapeutic and creative pastime, and brings joy to communities across the globe. So it’s wonderful that Hornsby Shire Council are once again giving artists the amazing chance to showcase their skill with the Hornsby Art Prize.

Entries are now open, with artists are invited to submit works in one of the four categories:

  • Painting
  • Printmaking
  • Drawing
  • 3D works

The Hornsby Art Prize is an annual art competition and exhibition, organised and sponsored by Hornsby Shire Council and delivered in partnership with the Hornsby Art Society. This year’s competition has a total prize pool valued at over $22,000, with the major prize worth $10,000. This non-acquisitive prize is open to all artists resident in Australia, aged 18 years and over.

Special Local Prizes

Hornsby Shire residents are eligible to win one of two local awards: the Hornsby Shire Emerging Artist Award and the Hornsby Shire Outstanding Artist Award. These awards aim to provide local artists with essential career development, a $3000 cash prize and a supported solo exhibition at Wallarobba Art and Cultural Centre as part of the 2018 Hornsby Shire Festival of the Arts.

Whilst the Hornsby Art Prize is open to artists all over Australia, the major award has been won by many local artists; including Tannya Harricks in 2012 with her painting, Glebe and Janet Tavener, last year, with her sculpture, Gold Plated.

Exhibition

The Hornsby Art Prize Finalists’ Exhibition will be held at Hornsby Shire Council’s award-winning, Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre, Hornsby, from Wednesday 15 to Sunday 26 November. It is presented as part of the annual Festival of the Arts and is a great opportunity to buy outstanding original art from local and national artists, whilst supporting the local creative arts scene.

Entries close 10 September 2017. Submissions are to be made online, and entry costs $40. Find out more information about the Hornsby Art Prize, and entry details here
