Calling all artists! Hornsby Art Prize 2018 entries are open now!

Grab your paint brushes and canvases, lino, paper, clay or tablet, because it’s that time of year again! Entries are now open for the Hornsby Art Prize. Enter the prize to win over 23k of prize money!

Art is a wonderful way to express yourself, an incredibly therapeutic and creative pastime, and brings joy to communities across the globe. So it’s wonderful that Hornsby Shire Council are once again giving artists the amazing chance to showcase their skill with the Hornsby Art Prize.

Entries are now open, with artists are invited to submit works in one of the five categories:

  • Painting
  • Printmaking
  • Drawing
  • 3D works
  • Digital Art Stills

What entrants need to know:

This year’s competition has a total prize pool valued at over $23,000, with the major prize worth $10,000. This non-acquisitive prize is open to all artists resident in Australia, aged 18 years and over. Entries close 31 July 2018. Submissions are to be made online, and entry costs $40.

Over the past six years, Hornsby Shire Council has been providing encouragement and support to Hornsby Shore resident artists at various points in their early to mid-term creative careers with two awards, worth over $4000 each and comprise $3000 cash and a supported, week-long exhibition at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre during the Hornsby Shire Festival of the Arts in the following year, and annual membership to the Hornsby Art Society.

  • The Hornsby Shire Emerging Artist Award.  The Hornsby Shire Emerging Artist Award supports artists in the early stages of their professional creative career.
  • The Wallarobba Outstanding Local Artist Award. Named for Council’s award-winning Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre, the Wallarobba Outstanding Local Artist Award has been designed to support and promote Hornsby Shire artists regardless of career stage or experience. It celebrates the Hornsby Shire resident artist who submits the most outstanding artwork produced that year.

Entry conditions:

The Hornsby Art Prize is open to ALL artists resident in Australia.

The Wallarobba Outstanding Local Artist Award and the Hornsby Shire Emerging Artist Award are open to Hornsby Shire Residents – this has been done to further support artists living in Hornsby Shire.

Where to see the works:

The Hornsby Art Prize Finalists’ Exhibition will be held at Hornsby Shire Council’s award-winning, Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre, 25 Edgeworth David Ave, Hornsby, from Wednesday 17 to Sunday 28 October 2018. It is presented as part of the annual Hornsby Shire Festival of the Arts.
