Australia Day Event Guide 2019


The first big celebration (and public holiday) for 2019 is Australia Day on Saturday 26 January (giving us a nice long weekend, even better!). There are lots of fun (and free) events happening all around the North Shore, city and other nearby suburbs, so take your pick and have a fun and memorable day with the family! 


North Shore

Australia Day BBQ by the Bridge, Milsons Point

Bradfield Park will host a traditional Aussie BBQ with an exciting multicultural twist! Come and celebrate the day with spectacular harbour views, free kids activities, a wide range of delicious food stalls and free music from top bands including: The Bamboos, High Rollers Big Band, The Martini Club and Evergreen Collective. There will also be classic Australian tunes from DJ Sir Robbo.

Bicentennial Park, West Pymble

Celebrate Australia Day at Ku-ring-gai Council’s free morning event at Bicentennial Park West Pymble, with music, dance and food. From 9am there will be a Citizenship Ceremony & Local Citizen of the Year awards. Family celebrations start from 10.30am.

The program of performances includes ABC Kids show Banana’s in Pyjamas, the Australian Reptile Show, Bush Band Reel Matilda, cultural performances, plus plenty of entertainment for the kids including an animal farm, inflatable rides and arts and craft.

Hornsby Mall

Head to Hornsby Mall for live entertainment, face painting, petting farm, circus workshops and the Lions Club iconic Australia Day BBQ!

Australia Day in Lane Cove

Celebrate with Australians at this special 70th anniversary citizenship ceremony in the iconic Lane Cove Plaza. The citizenship ceremony will be followed by a BBQ and live music from 11am to 1pm.

Australia Day Celebrations in Willoughby

Welcome our new citizens to Willoughby, hear a keynote speech from our Australia Day ambassador, Dale Cleaver, CEO of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT and congratulate Australia Day award winners, including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and the Community and Cultural Building Award. There will be performances by the Willoughby Band, a local choir and a special poetry reading from Willoughby Public School plus enjoy a free community BBQ lunch and listen to classic Aussie tunes.


The City

Australia Day Live, Circular Quay 

Fireworks and Yachts on Sydney Harbour during Australia Day Live at Circular Quay

It’s the whole shebang! Watch Australia’s biggest music stars rock out on the big screens around Circular Quay as everything else hits the water – a flotilla of yachts, jet skis, flyboarders and much more. Get to Circular Quay with time to spare and don’t miss the spectacular fireworks throughout the show.

Children’s Festival, Darling Harbour

The Wiggles will headline the Children’s Festival in a free show at 11am followed by kids’ entertainers The Vegetable Plot and The Beanies until 2pm. Afterwards, there’ll be plenty of laughs for the whole family with ‘True Blue Bush Games’ including a thong-throwing challenge, watermelon-eating competition and more.

From 3pm onwards the program includes DJs and live music from The Bamboos.

The Wiggles concert is a ticketed event. Free tickets will be released on Wednesday 16 January

Sydney Street Party, The Rocks

The Rocks hosts Australia’s biggest street party!

Enjoy music on the steps of the Opera House

Australia’s best talents come together for the Australia Day concert at the Sydney Opera House, playing the hottest tunes alongside tributes to great songs of the past.

North Ryde Common

Enjoy a concert at North Ryde Common

Join the community to celebrate Australia Day at the City of Ryde’s annual family concert at North Ryde Common from 5.00pm to 9.00pm. There will be rides, sports, food trucks and a great line up of entertainment, ending with a spectacular firework display.

Northern Beaches

There will be BBQ Breakfasts, thong throwing, face painting, live entertainment at Dee Why, Narrabeen and Newport. The Warringah Aquatic Centre and Manly Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton Aquatic Centre will host pool parties with a kids DJ, inflatable thong racing competitions and plenty more!

Celebrate everything that makes our nation great at The Hills Shire’s massive Australia Day party which will include show-stopping performances from your favourite Aussie artists, rides, free kid’s activities, delicious street food, roving performers, fireworks and much more.

Parramatta Park

Featuring the spectacular aerial hot-air balloon display, the Big Barbecue competition, the popular CARivale vintage car display, and plenty of kids activities, workshops and amusement rides. Don’t miss the main stage concert including the Parravision talent competition grand final at The Crescent followed two Australian headline performances and a massive fireworks finale.


Central Coast

The Entrance Waterfront

Bring the whole family along for an action packed afternoon and night full of free entertainment and fun activities. Enjoy an amazing main stage line-up including local artists and headliner act, Glenn Shorrock. The kids can splash around in Vera’s Watergarden or enjoy amusement rides and activities. There will be a free activities zone with a huge chess set, Mega 4, bowling, sack races and much more. The event will close with a fireworks display at 9.00pm.
