With an end of lease move looming, I knew I had to get our carpets cleaned as a matter of priority. After living in the house for almost two years (with two young and messy children), our carpets had become rather filthy. Despite regular vacuuming, the original beige colour had deepened slightly, and there were also a few blotches.
I asked for carpet cleaning recommendations in the North Shore Mums Facebook group, and one of the companies really jumped out at me – they were called Organic Carpet Cleaning. Intrigued, I went to their website to find out a little bit more.
The thing that really attracted me to Organic Carpet Cleaning, was the fact that they don’t use harsh chemicals. With young kids, I hate the idea of my kids breathing in toxic fumes, so the idea of natural, organic cleaning products sealed the deal.
I decided to book Organic Carpet Cleaning for a day when my kids were at pre-school… ideally, they’d come in the morning, so that the carpets would be dry by the time they got home. I asked what I would need to do in order to prepare for them, and was told to just remove the little bits from the floor – they would move the big furniture (such as beds, chests of drawers, bedside tables etc).
On the day, husband and wife team Maryanne and Mario arrived on time and got to work straight away. I pointed out my major concerns, and they said that they would do what they could… but that they couldn’t guarantee they would get rid of them. The longer the stain has been there, the harder it is to remove. I left them to get on with the job, and retreated to my office.
After a few minutes, I was delighted to have the most amazing smell coming from the bedrooms… which I later found out was a combination of eucalyptus, citronella and rosemary.

Mario finished the two children’s bedrooms, and invited me over to inspect the dirty cleaning water that he was about to pour on the lawn. The dirty brown colour was quite a shock. I had no idea there was so much dirt and grime deeply embedded into the carpet. My original concerns was with the marks in the carpet… what I didn’t expect to see, was all the hidden dirt and grime that had become so ingrained!
They continued with the other two rooms, and transformed the carpets to their former beige colour. They really seemed focused on doing a thorough job, not just a quick in-and-out scratch-the-surface type effort. They not only cleaned the carpets, but they also cleaned up the skirting boards too!
No section of the carpets were left untouched!
I really liked that they were completely transparent about the cost. The standard price for four rooms is $269. They don’t suddenly sting you extra costs for deodorising, cleaning specific stains or say that your ‘large’ room actually counts as two rooms. The estimate that they give you over the phone, is the price that you will pay on the day. The carpets are shampooed, sanitised and deodorised. And they look almost as good as new when done!
They were finished within two hours and the carpets were completely dry a few hours after that (certainly by the time the kids got home). It’s also good to note that they also clean upholstery, mattresses and air conditioning filters, and they can also do a dust mite treatment on mattresses (especially good for people with allergies).
Would I recommend? Absolutely.
