Take advantage of the gorgeous weather and try out a new family-friendly brunch spot, with absolutely breathtaking views! One NSM tried Echo on the Marina and shares her experiences.
My hubby and I are often on the lookout for a great brunch spot, and even more so now that we have an active toddler! Family-friendly cafes where there is lots of open space, places to explore or a playground nearby will always be a hit with our little one. But it can’t all be about the needs of the kids…good coffee and food are also pretty high on our priority list too! I had heard about Echo on the Marina in Roseville Chase a while back but had never thought it would be such a great place to go to with kids. Ticking every box for location, food, coffee and atmosphere, this café is truly a little hidden gem!
When we first arrived, I was instantly impressed by the setting. Surrounded by nature and stunning views, this is a location that makes you feel like you are miles out of Sydney or on holiday somewhere up the coast. The café is all alfresco dining right on the pier but you don’t need to worry about bad weather (or harsh sun rays) as everything is undercover. We didn’t have our pram this time, but I did notice lots of space for maneuvering around tables, and could tell the dining area had been well thought out with it’s design.
Our friendly waiter seated us right by the water, wasted no time in taking coffee orders and then left us to check out the menu. Classics like the ‘Echo Massive Breakfast’ ($20) or ‘Smashed Avocado on Toast’ ($14) are mixed in with some pretty delicious treats like ‘Wicked Waffles’ ($14) but what I was most impressed with was seeing some healthy options on the kid’s menu like a ‘Fruit Bowl’ ($10) or ‘Scrambled Eggs with Mushrooms’ ($10). We opted for the Echo Massive breakfast for my hubby, the Herbivore’ for myself and a fruit bowl for our little one.
Ducks swimming by and dogs playing on the beach were an excellent source entertainment while we waited for our food and water lapping on the shore gave the place a very relaxed vibe.
Our coffees & meals quickly arrived and we were all very excited to tuck in. The ‘Echo Massive breakfast’ came complete with Free range eggs your way (perfectly fried, sunny-side up for my man), bacon, chorizo, roasted button mushrooms, slow roasted tomato, baked beans, hash browns and was served with sourdough – it was an absolute feast and the perfect way for my hubby to start his weekend!
My ‘Herbivore’ plate was a delicious stack of sourdough toast with avocado, wild mushrooms, spinach and the most amazing caramelised onions!
And our daughter’s fruit bowl was a perfect mix of fresh, seasonal fruit all cut up into great sizes for her little hands. Needless to say we were all very full and satisfied after we had enjoyed our meals.
We took a few extra minutes after we had finished our meal to take in the view and enjoy the fresh air before taking a short stroll up to a fantastic pirate-ship themed playground (abut 5 minutes away through some gorgeous parklands), which my daughter also thoroughly loved.
All in all, we had a fantastic morning at Echo on the Marina. It’s an awesome venue for young families with excellent food, great coffee and its surrounds are perfect for little feet to explore and enjoy. I’ll definitely be keeping this one on our list for places to return to!
