On Wednesday 7 March, North Shore Mums hosted a special event for Hornsby Ku-ring-gai International Women’s Day Festival Week at St Ives Shopping Village. 120 North Shore Mums attended the evening to hear inspiring talks from Elka Whalan, Lizzy Williamson and Kristina Duke.

When you’re organising an event, you know you’ve struck a chord when it sells out within 5 days… and you get a plethora of emails from people who missed out, begging to be placed on a waiting list.

Fortunately, this was the case for our charity fundraising event called ‘Doing The Juggle Without The Struggle’.

The theme for the local festival was #lovemefirst – which is all about self-love and self-care for women. We all want to be amazing mums, and often that comes at the sacrifice of prioritising our children over our own needs. But in order to be the best mum we can be, we need to be the best person – and that means looking after ourselves too!

We secured three amazing speakers to inspire, motivate and excite our guests… Elka Whalan (Olympian, TV Personality, Mum of four), Lizzy Williamson (Author of ‘Two-Minute Moves’ and Kristina Duke, aka Decluttering Diva.

Guest Speaker, Elka Whalan

Julia, one of the guests, commented: “It was the best event I’ve been to in a long time. It was lovely to be with a community of women during International Women’s Day Festival Week, hearing inspirational women talking. I’ve started doing squats while brushing my teeth, talking about having ‘a full life’ rather than being ‘busy’, now I just need to get my 7 year old doing her own laundry!

Another North Shore Mum, Anna, said: “It was an amazing night – I learnt so much, the three speakers were all wonderful that I cannot pick my favourite! Kristina – I got my girls to do the laundry! Lizzy, thank you for sharing your story. Postnatal depression is not fun particularly for intelligent women who understand what’s going on and yet are powerless over their emotions – I hear you. Anyone who is suffering please get help – you can’t do it on your own – I can confirm that exercise was also the turning point for me – even just 2 minutes! And Elka, you are pure gold! Thank you so much for sharing your gift of seeing the good in every woman, recognising that we are better together and being a role model for putting family first.”

The fundraising event raised $2000 for the Local Women’s Wellbeing Fund, to provide a grassroots fund for local women to get community initiatives off the ground.

We couldn’t have raised so much without the kind support of our sponsors Helloworld TravelO’Loughlin’s Medical Pharmacy and Elleran Lingerie, all retailers at St Ives Shopping Village. And of course the support of St Ives Shopping Village for providing such a lovely location for the event, and helping to coordinate the finer logistics.

A big thank you to Winebubble for providing the wine and prosecco, Jennifer Spoor from The Welsh Wizz for the delicious canapes, Cliq Cafe for the tasty salads & Rebecca Lauric Patisserie for the incredible petit fours.

Thanks to everyone who provided items for the goody bags – including the full size tubs of Bio Island Vitamin C’s, pack of Higher Living organic teas, Kinesys Sunscreen, voucher for 2 free bottles of wine from Winebubble, 20% off MooGoo Skin Care from O’Loughlin’s Medical Pharmacy, ‘to do’ pads from Decluttering Diva, $20 voucher from Elleran Lingerie St. Ives, Sydney and more!

And last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to the super talented Claire Miles from Frangipani Designs, our photographer for the night. She managed to capture the incredible mood and personalities of all our guests beautifully. Enjoy the photos!
