Fancy some new gear for the new year? Looking for easy but effective ways to transform your place into a stylish space? Never fear, the style team from eclectic designer furniture retailer Matt Blatt is here with its top trends to ban bland and nail 2018’s key looks. You can thank them later.

Top 5 Trends

1. Dark timber

The opposite of the blonde wood Scandi style of recent years, 2018 will see the resurgence of dark and moody timbers in dining tables, on sideboards and cabinets, in coffee tables and even sofa legs. Welcome back walnut!

2. Indoor greenery

Faking it is the new making it when it come to plants and the fabulous range of faux foliage on offer can fool almost any gardening guru. From oversized indoor ferns to all-time favourite fake figs to the mysterious Monsteria and more, on-trend homes will be showing off greenery galore in 2018.

3. Plush fabrics

It seems the interiors’ scene’s velvet crush is here to stay, with the sumptuous fabric covering sofas, ottomans and armchairs everywhere in 2018. From pale pinks to deep greys to rich reds and blissful shades of blue and green, velvet – and our new fave fabric suede – are made to be seen.

4. Muted metals

Move over rose gold and copper. Shiny metals have had their moment and now it’s time to make way for matte metallics in rustic tones of brass, bronze and old gold. Think pendant lights, bar carts, side tables, credenzas and ornaments….there’s plenty of scope to bring a little metallic magic to any interior.

5. Modern Victorian

What do you get when you mix velvet with old gold with patterned textiles, dark wood and jewel tones? Dramatic salon style that’s perfect for moody bedrooms, dining rooms or cosy lounges – it’s Victoriana reinvented for modern-day living, and it’s the ideal remedy for clinical white interiors and ultra-modern angles.

Top 5 Colours

1. Peach

A pared back version of 2017’s ‘Millennial Pink’, this year we’ll be choosing muted shades of apricot, peach and clay as our new neutrals, both on walls, in window dressings and in accessories including throws, cushions, wall hangings and artwork.

2. Brown

Anything but boring, the new rustic browns – ranging from tan to cognac – are warm and earthy and distinctly different from the cool grey shades of recent seasons.  Mix them up with organic materials including leather, rattan, cow hide and timber.

3. Green

Going deeper than the apple-toned ‘greenery’ of last year, green is still going to be seen in 2018, however, this time it’ll be in soft sage shades on walls and in deep emerald green, olive and forest in furniture. Green velvet sofas , dining chairs and armchairs are a must have. You’ve been told.

4. Purple

With Pantone announcing the provocative purple shade ‘Ultraviolet’ as it’s colour for 2018, the rest of us had better take note. Pair with palest pinks to channel vintage romance, or stand with dark timber, bright whites and distressed metals for an edgy, urban take on this fresh shade.

5. Teal

We’re still loving this cool shade which is a brilliant blend of green and blue and adds a balanced, elegant vibe to any swish space. Saturate a room in it if you dare, pair with jewel tones or use to brighten up a neutral brown base in a modern way.
