Christmas

Can you believe it?! Christmas is just a week away, which means it’s time to start planning the perfect Christmas lunch – table and all! There’s nothing better than a festive, fabulous table setting to get everyone in the mood to celebrate. Here’s some tips on how to create a gorgeous Christmas table.

Ready to be the hostess with the mostess? It’s easier than you think. With just a few simple tips up your sleeve, you can create a gorgeous Christmas table.

3 top tips for creating a gorgeous Christmas table

1. Pick a colour scheme theme

It always helps as a starting point to pick a colour scheme. If you’re looking for inspiration and colour schemes, look around your house. What colours are in your decor? What type of decor do you have – Modern, Coastal, Hamptons, Vintage Retro, Nordic Scandi? Use these as a jumping-off point. You can have a lot of fun too.

If you are really struggling start with or go for an all-white look. Nothing looks more elegant than white. Simply layer white on white, from the tablecloths to placemats through to dinnerware. Add a silver centrepiece that sparkles against white flowers and crystal glasses. If you’re feeling brave, add a splash of one colour or more? You could add a table runner down the centre in red and white or blue. The serviettes or napkins could be a colour, or even the Christmas Crackers.

2. Add a centrepiece with a bit of height

Candles make great centrepieces

Centrepieces are a fabulous way to add movement and interest to the table. Here are some fabulous options you can choose from that don’t require too much effort.

Christmas Centrepiece Ideas

  • Flowers cheer up any table and serve as a stunning centrepiece. For example, a cluster of different jars with one or two flowers, your favourite vase with flowers to match your colour scheme. Alternatively, a Poinsettia or potted plant is another great option.
  • A cluster of Christmas ornaments in a bowl is a fast and simple way to achieve a stylish table setting. Choose colours to suit your scheme and give your guests one to take home as a memento of the day.
  • Make your décor with twigs from the garden – hang ornaments and ribbons from them.
  • An edible gingerbread house covered in lollies always looks wonderful and tempting and brightens up the table.
  • A wreath with a candle (or 3 candles of varying heights) makes a lovely and simple decorative feature.
  • A jar filled with candy canes and flowers on top, tied with a simple ribbon. Or, several jars filled with edible delights like candy canes, Christmas cookies, chocolates, nuts and strawberries. Use the old Mason jars with their red and white tops if you don’t have any.
  • A series of random snow globes. They can be store-bought or homemade.
  • Coloured cones made out of wrapping paper are simple but strikingly scattered up the centre of the table.

3. Add other decorations

Now that you have a theme and centrepieces sorted, it’s time to add a bit of character and depth to your table decorating with some extra decorations to pull everything together. Here’s some inspiration to get you started.

  • Fabric letters or even pinecones attached to a ribbon hanging on the back of the chairs add another small but impactful decorating addition.
  • Side tables are a fabulous way of injecting the Christmas décor into the room. Use coloured cones for example.
  • Decorations on plates such as name tags, a small cookie, or a present.
  • Wrap the napkins and serviettes with bright ribbon, and even add a candy cane, and cinnamon sticks.
