Love a Sunday roast? On a cold winter’s day, escaping to a comfy warm pub to enjoy a Sunday roast (that you haven’t actually had to cook) has huge appeal! NSM Discoverer Emma Bannouri has done her research, and discovered the best family-friendly places this side of the bridge for you to try this weekend.
The Bistro at The Bridgeview Hotel is a great family-friendly venue. Their menu includes a selection of pub classics and on Sundays they offer a traditional family roast with all the trimmings. The ‘Little Diners’ menu has half a dozen options and includes a drink & ice cream (for $10)!
It is also less than 500m to Hallstrom Park if your kids need to burn off some steam at a playground after their ice cream.
The Willoughby Hotel is situated just over a kilometre from the Chatswood shopping area. It has a relaxed bistro with a gastropub menu, their Sunday roast accommodates the whole family – $22 for adult & $11 for kids!
The Woolwich Pier Hotel is an award-winning pub with a British inspired seasonal menu and famous Sunday roasts for $30 (until sold out). It’s almost too hard to choose between the pork belly with crackling or the saddle of lamb. Families can grab a table in the stylish downstairs dining hall or the pavilion outside where the kids can run around on the lawn. The kids menu has some great options like rump steak or crispy fried chicken and includes ice cream and an activity pack, all for $13.
On Sundays they also have live music from 1-4pm.
Nestled in the heart of Mosman aloft a rooftop, The Fernery is a green oasis with sweeping views of Sydney Harbour. Every week, they offer two roasts – a meat based roast for $25 and a vegetarian roast for $22. The Fernery’s Sunday Wood Roast Dinners are uniquely wood roasted in The Fernery’s Josper oven for a light smoky favour. The meat-based roast rotates every week – expect items on the menu like a Borrowdale Free Range Pork Rack or a Waygu Beef. On Sundays, enjoy the view, a roast and the newly launched rooftop acoustic sessions by the fire pit.
Another North Shore institution, the Greengate Hotel has recently been refurbished and has an updated menu designed for sharing. Their take on a roast is the shared slow cooked lamb shoulder with green beans and pesto for $65 (between 2 people).
On Sundays they also have free face painting from 12.30pm to keep the kids entertained.
The Blue Gum Hotel is an Upper North Shore icon! The bistro has a classic pub menu and you can get your Sunday roast fix dining on their slow cooked pork belly or 12-hour slow cooked lamb shoulder with Kipfler potatoes. Their kids menu includes the usual pizza / burger / fish & chips options and is $12.
3 Weeds at Rozelle is a great multi room gastropub in the inner west with a cozy fireplace and beautiful cathedral ceilings. Over winter they offer a traditional shared roast with trimmings on Sundays for $50. They also have a great kids menu which includes a spring lamb & pea pie.
While your down that way you could also browse the Rozelle Collectors Market at Rozelle Public School which is open every Sat & Sun from 9am – 4pm.
