There’s nothing like watching your children’s eyes shine when they stand outside an amazing display of Christmas lights! And every year, there are many neighbourhoods on the North Shore that really go to town with spectacular displays. Christmas lights tend to start the first weekend of December and usually light up every night (weather permitting) from about 8pm… although the magic doesn’t truly emerge until it’s dark and the full effect can be seen against the dark night sky. So hop in the car with the kids and explore one of these incredible areas. See the list.
Getting the ‘classic’ Santa pic is a rite of passage for every child (sometimes, whether they like it or not!). There are lots of places on the North Shore where you can sit on Santa’s knee – from Chatswood and Macquarie to St Ives and Hornsby – or you could venture across the Bridge into the city. To help you choose where to go this year, we’ve put together a guide to all the spots where you’ll find Santa and his trusty photographer. See the list.

Take the kids to see a pantomime as part of your Christmas festivities this year! Developed in England, they’re generally adapted from a fairy tale and take the form of a musical comedy stage production featuring larger-than-life characters who sing, dance and tell jokes. They’re really popular around Christmas time, and make for a really fun thing to do for the whole family. Lucky for us, there are a few happening around the North Shore this December. So go on, add this British tradition to your repertoire! See the list.
